There is a circle button setting, auto land or return home are the two options. I'm guessing you have it set to auto land.

How are you guys trying the failsafe?
It would be a good thing to have a selectable 'return home and land' switch.
Like Paulb I've set the failsafe to return home and land, and notice that between the three mode positions on the switch the Assistant software labels it 'failsafe'.
Does this mean I can pull the switch between the three 'click' positions and the quad will do a return home and land?

I'm using a Hitec Aurora radio. My return to home and land works great. I use a 3-way switch (GPS-ATT-Manual). I tied a second switch (in the radio software, called Programable Mixes) to this switch, which will activate my RTH when in the GPS mode. Caution: if you activate the RTH and want to regain control of your bird, you need to deactivate the RTH switch, then move your 3 way switch out of the GPS mode and go to ATT mode

Unfortunately I've got an older Multiplex Cockpit SX with a Jeti 2.4 conversion in it (the Jeti works very well), and although the Cockpit has a 'spare' switch on the seventh channel, there's no mixing available to the other switches.
Think I'll just have to pull the three position switch to 'between clicks'.
Pity there's no other way of invoking the RTH without going to failsafe mode.

Does Home Lock gain altitude prior to returning home like RTH does? This would be important if you have obsticles in your path back.

I don't think so. That's why I mentioned being careful with it re altitude.
Of course, right after takeoff, you could determine how much power it takes to hover above your highest obstacle in the flight area. Then you could add that power setting in prior to initiating Home Lock.

I haven't set my F550 Naza/GPS up for IOC yet. Probably next couple days. I did set up my radio/receiver to go to RTH when radio loses communication with the receiver. When I'm in Naza Assistance, I can shut off the radio and it goes to failsafe. Have to try it out one of these days, but according to what I see on the screen, it should work just as if I threw the RTH switch on the radio to RTH.

For failsafe: Yes it will climb 20meters before RTH happens.
If you are higher than 20meters it will lower to 20meters before RTH happens.
Pretty crazy stuff when you see it for the first time
If your transmitter being turned off doesn't throw it into failsafe then I'm not sure what will happen.
