Just another boy with a Base Station...

Good morning! I finally got my duff around to finish my FPV base station. The point of my build was portability, cost and overall performance. I’ll be the first to say that these are NOT the best components (Pelican excluded). I got really lucky with the screen and DVR fitting the way they did. Below is the build list. I opened up the DVR to eliminate the RCAs and route the LCD monitor through the DVR to stream line all the power into a single plug.

Here we go:
* 7” TFT Color LCD Monitor: $35.90 (Amazon)
* Pelican 1075 case (Pistol and Tablet version are identical from what I can tell): $44.95 (Amazon)
Shrink wrap: $9.45 (Amazon)
1/4” Techflex x25’ (Flexloom): $18.01 (Amazon)
“Velcro” Industrial Strength: $9.55 (Amazon)
* 2CH Car Security Mini DVR CCTV Recorder: $56.92 (Ebay)
18 Gauge Silicone Wire (Item: 251405248971): $14.24 (Ebay)
HXT 4MM Bullet Connectors (Item 121289901934): $17.49 (Ebay)
* Boscam TS351 + RC805 5.8G 200mW FPV Kit: $59.99 (readymaderc.com)

Please keep in mind, while I total this up. I had a few of the items already. So I’m only listing those because they were used, not really adding to the total cost. For instance, I didn’t need 25 feet of Flexloom! I had this from years ago (Surface RC) and have been slowly using it on these MR projects. It also wasn’t needed, but added to the overall “finish” of the project.
Grand Total (only items with “ * “ above): $197.76. I could have gone with cheaper LCD screen, no DVR, pelican case, etc. But I wanted something durable and looked “Professional”. So I’m throwing this out there as an option for other’s to build on.

Aerial DP
if you get latency you might have to wire it with the dvr on it's own input seperate from the monitors..... i had this one a long time ago and forget how it behaved..... i just switched the input output wires on the dvr to watch footage..... latency is when the video is delayed

I noticed a slight delay (heard GoPro was notorious for that), but I'm not really going to be "FLYING" FPV, as much as using it for Aerial Video. This will give me a eyes on as I record. I'm waiting for the new FatShark to come out and will probably jump on that for actual FPV (Disco Pro??). But, thanks for keeping me honest!

Very nice, thanks for sharing! Can't tell exactly but might it be possible to mount the screen to the inside of the case lid? Then maybe you could open & use with case bottom attached to a tripod. Would need to add method to hold the lid open too, I suppose. Finally thanks also for posting the links-very handy.

Oh I agree!

I went back and forth with what I wanted. I don’t typically “band-aid” a problem/solution, but I wanted to basically “give it a try”. My focus right now is trying to do aerial photography for our Military units here in Korea. Doing an aerial formation/photo, video. Having something this small and portable would give the 1
[SUP]st[/SUP] SGT the opportunity to straighten up his unit.

I took it for a test flight tonight. I’m pretty impressed with the results. It’s not perfectly clear and the 200mW TX is a bit underpowered for situations out of line of sight. For what I intended it for, it’s going to work I believe.
