Our government through its various factions has been doing illegal things for a very long time. Not intending to be political, but the current administration makes a habit of breaking the law to get what it wants, regardless of the will of the people. In and of itself all that is bad but getting caught up as a civilian being targeted by the government steam roller will flatten anyone with less than $millions in liquid assets. Our court systems favor those with the most money and if you are served with a government court action you can assure your coffers will be bare in short order. The government has all the money it can digitize and an army of attorneys as staff. Illegal or not, once they start on you you're trashed financially. If you win, recovery is slow, if such happens in your life time.
