GoPro have some serious opposition

I do indeed agree. I made a point of reading as many reviews and checking as many videos as possible before getting the 5n. I really like the size, weight, cuteness etc., but I am just so unimpressed by the softness of the raw images - both photo and video. If I am doing something wrong I have no idea what.

What sort of lens are the F3 owners using on their 5n?

He had the 16mm Sony prime. He also has a collection of Nikon glass and an adaptor.

Could it be your particular 5n has some kind of fault?

Would not surprise me in the least. I have had a near disastrous catalogue of faulty gear in the past three years. An unbelievably long list whereby virtually 90% of everything purchased has had to be returned for one reason or another. There is no reason why this tiresome tradition should not still be continuing !
