GH-4 - focus question

Hi all,

I took my first footage on the GH-4 today using the Ronin. Very impressed with the image quality, but I clearly need to make some changes to the setup as I've discovered that anything closer than about 6ft is out of focus.

I had the camera set on:

Rec Format: MOV
Rec Quality: FHD 100M 50P
Continuous AF: ON
and the focus switch to AFC

From reading the manual, I thought this would give me decent quality footage with the most flexible auto focus, but I clearly missed something fundamental as it kept focus beautifully on everything behind the close subject :)

Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks,
Dom.

it is super important to update the lenses to the latest firmware, you can find it on the lumix gh4 site.

We use focus pullers to get a professional look with video..... AF isn't perfect but at least if your lenses have the latest firmware they do alright. You might also try that 49 point setting and not just center or face....

Thanks for the feedback. I'm using the Olympus m.zuiko digital ed 12mm f2.0 lens. I had no idea you could upgrade firmware on a lens. Any help on how to do that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dom.

with panny lenses, you just do it the same as the cameras firmware and the camera sorts out the rest,,,,, not sure if that one has a firmware update or not. Theres a piece of paper in the gh4 packaging that talks about it

Whats's your f stop? The AF on the GH4 with most M43 lens's aint that great. I prefocus for my distance manually and run a higher f stop to increase my depth of field. Or you could hire a focus puller like Kloner.
