Flipping H*ll

Hello all,

Got my first multi-rotor the other day, a DJI 450 Flamewheel Naza.

When flew it the other day after 4 mins of flight it decided that it would flip inverted whilst hovering and slam itself into the ground.

I've searched here and found a few threads where others have have similar things happening, but none have had a real conclusive answer.

Suggestions seem to be motor-esc connection problems, and gain issues, both of which I will try when I get it back in the air.

Up until this point I'd flown it 5-6 times with no issue, but did this time mount my gopro, so the crash is on video.

If you watch/listen closely you can hear the motors power down, flip and power back up before it hits the ground.

Can also see that when descending the quad wobbles, I guess this is due to lack of authority due to the rotors being slowed. Helicopters can do the same thing when auto rotating, I need to play with the gains to fix that.

FYI I'm flying it in manual mode

Thoughts appreciated

Peter

have you noticed any of your props further away than others when this happens? It almost sounded like a prop broke to me? This has been very popular on these forums as of late.

Didn't search for them, one was by the model. You may be right, one stub has a dirty break stained green, the other was a clean snap.

Wow, that sucks.
It didn't really sound like a prop breaking in mid air through (DJI stock props do that all the time)
Here's what one of my 3 crashes sound like due to the stock prop breaking.

from my experience, the props only last around 15 flights, myself and a lot of others use 10" Graupners now on both F450 and F550 with either 3s or 4s batteries.
Here's where you can get them from the US
http://rc-drones.com/Props.php

or pay less and wait a few weeks to have them shipped from overseas

Check your bullet connectors to make sure they are very tight.
Check for vibs, make sure your battery is strapped down well & check motors for movement.

Flew 6-7 packs over the last couple of days, after reducing the gains and breaking and remaking the connections and with new props, no problems, what it was I may never know.

Will order some Graupner props though.

Thanks

Go with the Graupners & don't look back. Get the spacers also for a tight prop.
I got the props & perfect spacers set from gothelirc.com

this looks like a bullet connector joint problem. left side, can't tell if it's front or back though, usually they have a distinct head over tea kettle look.

the sound was definately something outta balance like a broken prop. the front left prop is'nt visible after a couple nano seconds after the flip starts. stopped or gone

to descend smooth, theres no gain that makes em eat there own prop was falling smooth, just give it a slight forward movement when dropping and it'll smooth up. it's how you fly, not a setting. just trying to save you some time. Gains are all about exactly what the manual says. if you haven't read it, read it again.

I think it was not a broken prop because quad did not fall to the side of any specific motor, but to the left side (this would be possible only if both props broke together).

You was using the newest firmware?

Yes, especially when in 1080 "Wide"
But I don't mind seeing the motors/proprs, it gives me something to base horizon off of

I'm glad you guys are happy with gotheliRC.com. I've been to visit with Rick a few times and he's a good guy with a lot of experience in RC helicopters.

how much longer will DJI use those crappy props though???

for me he's been the best dji dealer. ask a question, he's right there. Buy something, you got active tracking number showing it dropped off asap. Fair pricing and alot of the dji stuff is free shipping and it's priority.

5 stars from kloner......... but i've never had a problem with a product so i've only tried half of the total experience

Bart, what happened to the video/picture deal. it quit working unless you use em editing a post. what broke?
