Flat 8-rotor orientation

Bartman

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Hi All,
I'm building an Okto with a Droidworx frame and the frame is laid out so the arms are like a double quad with two front, two back, two on each side. My MK std Okto 2 has one arm each in the front/back and one each side with the other four on the corners.
I'd like the DW to have the same layout as the MK but before I do I thought I'd ask if anyone can think of a reason not to.
To make it work I'll have to drill and countersink new holes for the FC board and relocate the gear to different mounting holes (probably have to make new gear brackets as well). I'll ba able to copy my MK config to the new DW Okto and keep the two pretty much the same as far as settings go (I hope).
Just looking for something I might not have thought of yet.
Thanks,
Bart

NO you dont bart.. you just adjust the mixer set up with the arrows to offset the orientation..

When you import the mixer set up to the FC you will have the standard octo config in the screen. underneath there are two arrows you can click to move front to either left or right.. eg my FC on the Y6 has the forward arrow pointing towards the left arm. By clicking on the right arrow the blue forward centre line moves right so you trick your fc into thinking is facing directly forward. You will also need to do this on your camera set up.

That's rather interesting, I never actually noticed the different setup of the arms on the D/W Octo, I actually think it would fly a little bit better like that! Dave you're 100% correct though that it's much easier to just tweak the direction of the arrow in the mixer table than start relocating components all over the frame. That said If Bart wants to have an arm sticking straight out the front, he will at the very least have to relocate the mounting point for the landing gear. I on the other hand would just fly it with the offset landing gear to mess with onlookers heads...:p

The other option is to build a pan system for the camera gimbal and mount the landing gear to it, then the orientation of the mount points really wouldn't matter.

Yo Ken.. good evening.. You can also offset the camera attitude in the camera tab so you dont get roll and nick (tilt) when you only should be getting Nick (tilt) and visa versa
