I've got a F550-WKM loaded! With a small camera and landing gear and 5000 3s Battery it weighs in at 2400 on the nose..

But I'm taking fixed camera mount off and changing the camera (Most of the weight to be honest) to a gopro and putting on a 565g gimbal on.. I'm running 10" Graupners apart from that all standard.

Was wondering if anyone else is flying a little over what manual says?

Just done some calcs

Gimbal = 565g
Frame = 478g
Camera = 68g
Landing Gear = 170g
WKM = 118g
iOSD = 42g
TX Ground Station = 23g
Motors x 6 = 336g
Esc' x 6 = 162g
TX and FTP Tx 12g

Total 1974g

Battery max weight 3s 5000 = 443.g

Grand total 2417g LOL

Hi Vin,

I am also in the 2300 - 2400 grams range depending on the type of batteries I use. It ranges between 5000 mah 3S to 6400 3S. I have taken off with 150 grams over in the past. It is not critical as your ship won't blow up in the air Ha! Ha! However, if it is windy with gusts and you are low you may be flirting with the limits of the ship (manoeuvrability and ability to climb at an acceptable rate). Also, the flight time will be reduced if your are too heavy so it defeats the purpose. The 550 seems to be happy with the recommended weight. If you need more, you will have to look at extensions, larger props, 4S batteries and possibly stronger ESC. Quite expensive for few extra grams... It all depends of your needs.

Cheers! and Happy End of the world!

Rodge :)

Thanks Rodge, Will keep her near the 2400g mark. Like you it's the battery that makes the difference unit is about 1974g. Will see when the gimbal and gopro is added.. Christmas day LOL

LOL Happy End of the world too..

Hi Vin,
I'm tackling the weight issue also with my F550 Naza. However, I've been through some modifications to the original copter settings. First, I replaced the stock motors by Kopterworx brand (no specs provided by the manufacturer), same for the props replaced by Graupner 10x5 Eprops. The reason I did this is to be able to fix my new Photohigher AV130 2 axis gimbal. This much heavier gimbal replaces the Aeroxcraft I had before.
The F550 present weight is 2500 gr, including Zippy 3s 5000 mAh, Castle BEC, the gimbal and attached Gopro.
Now, I'm planing to replace the Gopro with the Sony nex5 and increase battery power with Billowy 3s 5900 mAh. This will bring the total weight to near 3 Kgs. To be honest, I don't know what will happen. Most probably my flight time will drastically decrease, I just hope not to burn some ICs here.

That's the problem I have. If upgrade then should I look into another frame as well. I have access to cutting tools and was thinking maybe build my own from carbon have some good ideas in head need to put them on paper and cad it up x

I flew my new F550 Naza GPS 10" carbon balanced props yesterday gross 3100g. MKtrPro gimbel Nex 5N 4000 3 cel battery.

It flew just fine, a little sluggish compared to 2300g but not bad. Flight time 7 min lipo down to 15%, so I will limit flights like this to 6 min.

WOW, that's very encouraging !
Tomorrow I'll be test flying my newly re-set F550 with PhotoHigher gimbal and 3s 5900 mAh battery. Gross weight should be about the same with my Sony nex5n. Will keep you updated guys. Thanks Olof.

Vin,

I am just running the standard ESCs and motors. I got the props here:http://rc-drones.com/Props.php

I got the balanced ones, I run them on an F450 as well, they are quiet and vibrate much less than the DJIs. My motors did not get hot, slightly warmer than with a lighter load but less no problem touching or grabbing all the way around the motors, my guess temp about 95 ºF. Same with the battery. Outside temp was cool about 40 ºF.

Merry X-mas.

My weight was coming in at 2775 gr. I am running the a 4S 5000 and getting solid 10 minute flight times, before it cold at least. I am using DJI's ESCs and 2212 motors with 10" Graupner's...

Hi,
we have just builded F550 with NAZA and GPS. Stock motors, ESCs and props 10x4,5, battery is 3S 4500. AUW 1,5kg. After 3-4 mins of flight it takes 4000 out of battery. I am thinking what is wrong in my setup and how to improve flight time to get values like olof has... Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Stepan

I use 3cel 6400 batts so what you have for time seems about right. I get 4 minutes out of 3cel 4000's with 20% left. I do fly pretty gently, no fast climbing.

Here is the latest vid with that setup:

I believe that the 4S batteries on the stock motors will put you guy over the motor limit as for as the "Watts" go and if so that will shorten your motor life

Awesome video ! What gimbal are you using again ? I am unable to get this kind of stability in the Roll axis.

But on the flight duration, I get easily 8 min with approx. 2800 gr gross weight. I use 3s 5900 mAh 35c, graupner 10x5 props and Kopterworx motors.
