DJI Naza as APV flight controller

I use one of the el-cheapos and just use shielded cable within about a 1/2 inch of the tx plug with very good results. No problem with noise and very good range.

Changing to a separate battery got rid of the noise problem for me, without having to resort to doing much else. Although range is not that big a deal for this setup, I think I would get fewer dropouts with better antennas. I'm using a 3dB whip on the F450 and an 8dB patch on the receiver end. If I get serious about this, I'll probably at least upgrade to some cloverleaf antennas, and maybe a diversity Rx setup. I'd also like to do something about replacing my goggles. I took a pair of video "glasses" and mounted them in a hacked-up set of swim goggles, and then enclosed the whole assembly in black shrink-wrap. It works quite well, but is not all that comfortable to wear. :) Anyway, CNC has a pretty good combo setup with Flycam 5.8GHz integrated set of goggles, that looks awfully tempting. :) I need to add an OSD widget as well.

Hello all,
I have my Naza flying now and find I have to trim the pitch and roll even when flying in attitude mode. I can not find any way to calibrate the accelerometers like you can with the MK flight control. What do you guys do about this?
I am thinking maybe I need to shim the Naza a little on it's mount but feel like there should be a better way. The Naza seems to learn the stick centers at start up so if I put in a few clicks of trim during flight on the next flight you will need to add more trim and the next flight more trim and so on until it will not start due to the trim being so far off. What I have been doing is trimming during flight and then resetting the radio trims before the next flight. There must be a better way.

Thanks,
John

I received my Naza Flamewheel kit and assembled it pretty easily. Then I attempted to hook it up to any one of three different computer I have available via USB so that I could run the Assistant software. In order to run the software and connect with the Naza via USB the documentation states that it is necessary to run the "DJI_USB_DRIVER" Setup Software. After locating that file I attempted to run it exactly as it requests. However, when I attempt to run that file (the 64 bit version for this Windows 7 operating system) virtually nothing happens. I say "virtually" because I can see a black "dos screen" that seems to want to open for just a fraction of a second and then disappears. DJI's instructions say:
  1. Open driver folder DJI_USB_Driver_32bit or DJI_USB_Driver_64bit, double click “Driver Setup.bat” file and follow the steps to finish installation.
Since nothing seems to happen there is no way to move forward. Consequently there is no way to setup my Naza because the Naza itself appears have no installed driver to make it function. HAs anyone had this issue and been able to resolve it.

I am dying here :(

Gee, I just went thru this with my WKM.

First off, it's a .rar file, so you have to have a WnZip that will open it. I downloaded 7winzip, (free).

Highlight all the files and extract them together.

I extracted the file first with Winzip. That is how I was able to get the individual 64 bit Driver Setup file, but it will not run so I am trying to find out if anyone else has resolved this issue and how the may have done that. It seems that others have had these problems and then I see people suggest things that might help (all of which I have tried) but still no luck getting the file to install.

Just a shot in the dark but try opening up a cmd prompt box as an administrator (run as administrator) then run the .bat from there

Also remember that the Naza has to have power before it will be seen by the pc, ie the power module needs I be connected to the battery and plugged into the Naza. It's not powered by the USB port.

When you install the driver, that's all it does is to pop up a little black box and the driver is installed

I was finally able to get it working a couple of days ago. DJI has a file folder that ends in the word "NEW" which now works for Windows 7. The folder that I downloaded the first time (if I remember correctly) was called "dji_usb_driver" and did not work, but the new one is: "dji_usb_driver_new". That made all the difference in the world and it loaded right up. Thanks for your tips just the same! Now I am trying to figure out why I am having trouble getting this to hover. I have my ATTI & Manual setting correct and can confirm their actions from within the Assistant software but mid-stick on the throttle just doesn't seem to make it want to hover, even after many checks and re-checks for calibration. I am taking off in ATTI mode too by the way. Any thoughts?

Well I am glad to see most everyone enjoys flying with the NAZA. I myself am new to this hobby after my stroke I saw one of JUZs videos in the hospital I WAS HOOKED!. I first bought a MX400 and watched it fly away on its maiden flight never to be seen again that one lasted 45 seconds. I being a stubborn man went right back and ordered another MX400. This one lasted 76 seconds before I lost sight of it in the Arizona desert. Needless to say the $848.00 loss of those two quads within 1 week was quite a hit!. I decided to take things a little slower this time and study the forums better to learn with others mistakes than to pay for your own LOL. I finally ran across the NAZA name and the more I looked into the NAZA the more I wanted one for myself. Well, I went ahead and got the fully loaded F450 from a local dealer in my town. With a friends help the F450 was put together and flying in under 2 hours. I couldn't believe the way the NAZA made it child's play flying a quadcopter!. I found the NAZA was so easy it almost flew itself. I now have a set of FatSharks, a 600 mW video tx with5.8 GHz Bluebeam Whip Antenna Set (RHCP) and a ezosd. I haven't installed this extra stuff as of yet until I practice much more. I have hopes for the future with this stuff. The great thing at least for me was the stability out of the box with the NAZA!. Here is one of my test flights I do these 2 times a day in my front yard. As soon as I feel I am ready I am going out into the middle of the desert and fly with the camera and Fat Sharks! here is one of my videos shot today-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSB5xpHY_7M&feature=youtu.be
