DJI Naza Altitude hold?

Can anyone clarify the situation for me?
Can the DJI Naza MC hold the F450 at a fixed altitude on the built-in barometer, ie. without a GPS?
Reading the manual seems to suggest it can, but in practice I find I need to adjust the throttle slightly to maintain a fixed altitude.
Have I misinterpreted the manual or am I doing something wrong?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Gerry.

Yes it's supposed to hold altitude. When you do your sticks calibration in naza assist., make sure you finish with your throttle in the middle and it's green, this tells naza what 50% throttle is-learned that from kloner-see steve, I do pay attention.

hahaha, exactly

sometimes too if it only drops when you move fore/aft side to side then its more a cg problem. naza hates huge cg shifts like a low hanging gimbal or batteries up top of the props.....

gain too, but if you dont get improvement from moving the gain, its mechanical as described above

this is all in atti and if i moved the throttle, i didn't notice it. up to 2:30 is a fixed mount perfect cg. the econd part is another ship that had a tilt gimbal. cg would shift and it was a constant battle to hold elevation. most of that part is going up and down 10-20 feet, bouncing along like a ball.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't have any additional equipment on my quad, so CG is dead centre.
Will double check stick calibration in Assistant and check it out again.
Thanks,
Gerry.

the battery being 2mm over one way or the other is al it takes, a top mounted pack makes what i call cg shift as the craft tilts,,,, physics

Ah. Good to know about the throttle. It's weird as flying indoors the naza still seems to hold alt but occasionally makes a big dive while just sitting there. Ill try centering the sticks in the calibration and report back.

that can be light hitting the left side, especially indoor kinda lights like metal hallide or hps.......

if it's not that, a big dip on me has been a rough running motor. have you tried rotating the prop adapters for a smoother run? if not balanced the motors? i've heard of a flat spot on some esc's and naza that's like hitting the throttle in your car (atti adjusting speed to hold alt) and it falls on it's face then fires up........ the early disco r&d showed a bunch of stalls in the middle of aerobatics........ manual mode rolling and flipping. not sure if any of that was ever addressed in any of the firmware updates. i do remember plush not being compatible with naza until recently

Hi Guys ok... so in the top, and bottom CG world, what would be the best estimate of the relationship between top of the copter weight vs bottom of the copter weight example could it be like 50%T-50%B, or more like 40%T-60%B, and so on, also wind or no wind, I am trying to find that sweet spot testing with a Naza M at the moment, I assume different FC have different tolerances like DJI Naza, DJI Wookong, or MK FC2.1
any thoughts
thanks

dji is like dji, mk is like mk......

You want the weight from center of the plates for forward flight to down under the craft for hovering. Slows everything down, alot. top heavy is well, top heavy. if you look at a disco or any of the fpv specific quads are is the best way for massive amounts of tilt change, like 45 degrees up on nose to pulling back to stop, to turning sideways while moving forward.

If you look at a heavy lifter ap ship, you'll see more weight under it (by alot) than above it, helps make em easy to move slow and smooth

Thanks I will experiment by shifting the battery to the bottom Il post the results at the moment this is what I am experimenting with

Yes it is waiting for me to finish this smaller bird so I can put all my attention in to the big bird

your lg, cam all offsets the top mounted batts. if you pick up your choper ready to fly by two opposing arms and work your way around, does it always hang level? try all three opposing arms,,,,

alot of nice parts for that frame

is that the long red gimbal? cs8 gonna carry it?

Hi Kloner yes in a horizontal plane the CG is level if I pick the copter up placing the tip of my fingers on opposing arms it is pretty level, what I am experimenting is, if all of the weight is on the bottom of the copter gimbal and battery is it better in wind or not

No the gimbal in the back is for a CS8 that I am rebuilding you see I went swimming with it in salt water ouch I know. I just want to get this small one flying with no issues, it use to be a simple f550 but it grew larger in great part due to having 8 extra salty motors from the CS8, I was able to bring them back to life I think 100% after I disassemble them clean them, with diferent electronic cleaner, blow them with hi pressure air to get the fine sand off, change the original bearings for better ceramic ones replace the small clip on the bottom and they are running very very nice also I am trying to have a small camera copter that can fit complete in a more or less not to large shipping case with out disassembling it or at least just the gimbal off pack it and go
