Hi Matthew,

Its a litle bit of a mess in there, because of the backlight canopy and i want to keep the motor wiring max length so the motors can be used as spares for my CS8.
The IMU is directly over the Herks and i dont have any problems.

Awesome thanks for the pic. For something so expensive it sure is small. Do you find you need to keep her cool? I've got a herkules heat sink coming with mine but I'm not sure how necessary it is to have it in. In running Axi 2814/22 motors and XOAR 12" carbon fibre props. I plan on lighting up my canopy from the inside too because I painted it white it should glow like a radioactive egg!

To tell the truth I wouldnt know how to fit a heatsink in. If we are talking about a version like the custom one i made for my CS8:

But it certainly is possible to stick some RAM Heatsinks to the FETS, I wanted to do that but cutting up RAM Heatsink the the size of one FET which you have to do because between you have the soldering pads for the motors cables was to much of a hassle.

I dont have any problems heat wise concerning the Herks in the CX running KW4 which are comparable to 2218/14 axis.

And 13 " is max on the CX in my eyes 13 are very close to the canopy already, 14 " would go over the canopy.

It is equipped with the following: WK-M auto pilot system, Avroto 2814-11s motors, Graupner 11x5 electro props, 5800mAh 4 cell battery, CX-113 two axis camera mount, Sony Tx100v camera/HD video recorder, FPV camera, lipo low battery alarms, 900mHz video transmitter, custom made battery tray designed for quick battery change and adjustable balance point for swappingout different weight cameras in the front of the aircraft. Flying weight, loaded with all listed equipment is 6.5 pounds.

Video of and from the aircraft to follow soon.

Best regards,

Hi Tkeeg,

Saw that beauty over on RCGroups. Very Nice. My all white canopy was locked in after I saw how good it looked on yours.

I have the CX-3 and Im disappointed about the location of the tilt servo. I also need to put together some sort of battery bay now I cant use my landing gear. I was looking at adapting the double battery tray available at kopterworx, or building something like yours. Can you describe your battery tray build in some more detail for us?

Hello Matthew and thanks for your kind words.

I did this build a few months ago so my memory may be a bit vague in some of the details. I used either 1" or 1 1/4" long aluminum standoffs with a 4-40 size thread and connected them to the frame of the CX-4 as you can see in the first photo. Getting the exact location where the standoffs would stick through the bottom canopy of the CX-4 was a bit challenging and I can't remember for sure exactly how I did it, but I was lucky enough to drill the four holes in the correct spots of the bottom canopy.
I used a piece of 1/4" plywood as the battery tray and drilled holes in it to bolt it to the aluminum standoffs, I applied industrial adhesive Velcro to the painted plywood and also to each of my batteries, then used a single long loop of Velcroto wrap around the battery tray & the battery for extra security. It is VERY strong & stable and you can easily change batteries in less than five seconds!

Tom
