Control Mode Setup with Futaba T8FG

Hello everybody,

I
have searched many forums including this one and the answer has elluded me so I
figured I'd try getting help here. Basically I am trying to program the control
mode switch on the Futaba T8FG. It appears that I have the failsafe and attitude
mode set correctly but I don't seem to be able to configure the GPS mode. I am
linking a video in hopes that someone can assist me in overcoming one of the
last tasks before the first flight.

Hi there mikael. I am not familiar with the set up of that radio but I believe that once you have switch in the position that you want for the GPS then you may have to go in your "sub trims" and go up down to refine the position of the slider in the DJI software until it turns blue when on GPS. I did this on JR radio with 3 position switch, GPS/Atti/Manual. The GPS and manual were adjusted with end points or travel adjust and the Atti was adjusted with sub trim. When you turn off your radio you want to see the slider move to Failsafe and turn blue. This may have to be done by setting up the failsafe with in your radio and binding with your control switch set at failsafe. (when it's blue on the slider). The ins and outs of that radio is where i can't help you. But if I were you I would take care of Failsafe first and then the Travel adjust, or sub trim, for the other three functions. I took me a couple of time to read through the wkm instructions, but they do make sense. I think the tricky part is also refering to your TX manual to set this up. Hopefully helps a little bit?

Thanks Siteline, after watching the video at this thread It helped me figure out what I needed to do to get GPS/Atti, Atti and manual setup. I then realized that I still have to setup failsafe as you suggested. When I turn off my transmitter it does not currently go to failsafe. I need to do some reading on the failsafe setup as I was fixated on getting the other three modes to work.

I have just got a T8FG Super and after a bit of fiddling have got it setup just how I want it. On mine I have one three position switch selecting the GPS/Atti/Manual mode and then another which, regardless of that first switch, will put it in to failsafe mode. It also goes in to failsafe when I switch the transmitter off, but this way I can just flick the switch and it'll come home and autoland, which means I can then take over control if I want to subsequently, rather than having switched the transmitter off and waiting for it to reconnect if I change my mind.

I'm assuming you're using SBUS. Basically I assigned a switch to channel 7 and then used sub trim and end point adjustments to get the mode working (so that in the assistant the pointer falls in the middle of each GPS/Atti/Manual section and lights up blue). I then used a mix to adjust what happens on that channel and assigned a switch to it; this pushes the pointer in to one of the two failsafe regions in the assistant. If using SBUS you don't need to do anything with the Failsafe mode on the transmitter - the controller will detect the loss of signal from the transmitter and go in to failsafe automatically.

I like the 8FG a lot (previously I was pretty limited with my DX6i) and have made use of some more of the many switches. I've got one which starts/stops/resets a manual timer, I've got an auto timer based on the throttle with a reset on the push switch, dual rates for when flying in Manual mode, a throttle-off hold switch and of course the remote gain adjustments on the variable knobs.

Let me know if you need more info on any of the settings.

The idea is simple.

use the 3-point switch
using endpoints set, set to manual and the other end to GPS the att mode should be fixed on the center and can't be changed.
using the failsafe settings on the tx set failsafe on this channel to where it lights up failsafe on the assistant.
pair the rx and tx to sync the failsafe settings.

failsafe is not to be selected by switch but automatically when the tx's power goes out.

Thanks for all your help guys, I greatly appreciate it. Ok so I now have failsafe working with a three way toggle where the center position of the toggle is neutral and position 1 and 3 throw it into failsafe no matter which control mode I am in or at least that's what the assistant reports. I can't figure out what I need to do to get it into failsafe when I switch the transmitter off. Swisser can you she some light on this part. What are the steps to trigger failsafe when the transmitter is turned off or the signal is lost to the rx? I keep reading something about re-binding with the throttle set halfway, I guess I'm just dense as I don't get it. Thanks again.

mikael, I didn't have to do anything at all to set up failsafe with the 8FG. As soon as I switch off the transmitter the controller detects it and goes in to failsafe mode with the associated blue LED. This is a function of the SBUS system. I think all the stuff about re-binding with the throttle set halfway relates to non SBUS systems. What happens (in terms of LED and assistant notifications) when you: (a) power up the controller without the transmitter being turned on and (b) once normal hook up is established, switch the transmitter off?

Thanks swisser. I am not using SBUS so I gues that's part of my problem. When I turn on the controller with the TX off the assistant reports that the controller is in failsafe and led flashes red - red - red - blue until I turn on the TX. Then it goes into whatever control mode the TX is set to. When I turn off the TX from this point it does not go into failsafe and seems to stay in whatever mode the TX was on.

Do you not have an SBUS receiver? The elegance of a single connection, zero-admin failsafe and the ability to use all the options if using an octo make the SBUS option the best choice if you're already using a compatible transmitter.

I don't have an SBUS receiver so I am trying to get failsafe activated without SBUS when the TX is turned off. Which SBUS receiver is recommended for the T8FG?

Just a point of view
I have the T8FG Super with R6208SB with WooKong-M on XAircraft 450 Pro Frame and today i just tried to set up the Tx with the WooKong Assistant 1.13 and i made those change in the TX:1) To set the Slide to switch between 3 positions i modded the END POINT of the CH7 to 135-80 // 80-135 and it work well.2) in FUNCTION CH7 CTRL-SC // TRIM-SD and i have the FAIL SAFE in the position 1 and 3, in the position 2 it stay in ATT without mod the END POINT.I tried and it work quite well.At this time i tried just inside my house and all the MODE work quite well, obviously the GPS mode work but it move around in a circle of 2 meters, i will try outside when it stop to rain..Nice the ATT Mode but it move around a little too when i release the stick, it stay in the position for a moment then it move away.Maybe i need to mod something else to hold the position.Question: There is a way to assign a GAIN in the TX in the Pitch-Roll ? Maybe in the RD Channel of the Transmitter?
