I'm fixin to swap over my motors and wanted to drop you guys a vid of where i was able to get it using the stock 3s ARF setup. Tried the 10x4.7 apc sf and they ran great, just really, really loud and had quirks rotating yaw in my vids. next i tried the 9x5x3 but they didn't have any power on 3s, tried 4s and walla, it started coming together. Flew a week like that but the extra weight of the 4s was starting to annoy me and the thought of my 12v led's running at 16 volts wasn't working out, lights were getting really hot. last night i got in a set of 10x6x3 and was able to drop back to the 3s packs again and all seems much better. Still gotta give it a go in the light, but she feels really stable in my normal test spot. This was all in manual mode

be back in a couple hours when the sun comes back up with an actual flying vid

heres some pics, shes plugged full of crap. the only gripe so far is they whistle about half as loud as the apc, the 9" didn't whistle much at all

3lbs 9oz on 3s 4400 skylipo auw

This was onboard with the 9x5x3 on 4s

hoping the larger props with less weight on em will hold the quad itself a little more stable, but this is plety good enough for me to go fly fpv on the goggles

I'm happy, real close to real happy

well that's night and day better. gonna have to try it in the wind to see if it wobbles then, noticed theres a big gap between a working gain setting and wind affects. She climbs a little slower than the 10x5x2 or the 9x5x3 on 4s, but shes super steady and i think looks like less vibes than before. sure is quiet, gets up over 20 feet up and i can't hear a thing. it maxed out at 24 amps total, the other 2 combos ran in the low 30's max. it is noticeably less powerful but i think a keeper. Will see how the new motors deal with it

Sounds like you are at pretty much the same place as I am. I've had the dji450 kit assembled since this weekend, and have been very impressed with things overall. I also just got in some 9x5x3's and 10x6x3's yesterday and am planning on installing them this weekend.

I've been doing a little with fpv over the past few days. Here's my equipment setup so far:

Futaba t8fgh super with 8 channel receiver
DJI f450 with WKM
DJI motors and 30a esc's
Foxtech 200mw 5.8 video transmitter (thinking about upgrading to the 600mw ImmersionRC)
WDR 750 sony camera
Foxtech All-in-one goggles (not using the head tracking)
3s 6000 turnigy batteries

Things I'm still waiting on:
ImmersionRC EzOSD (anyone know where I can order one from USA? - everyone is out of stock)
Blubeam antennas for video transmitter and goggles (receiver)

Overall, things have been going VERY smoothly. Took off yesterday with fpv to see what the range would be. Got far enough away from the house that I was slightly lost and had to gain altitude so I could find my house. (I live in forest on top of a hill with only a few houses around) I am going to LOVE fpv! Definitely adds a new dimension to rc flying.

that's awesome. on 6000 mah with this set of props you'd be flying forever. the 9x5x3 are gutless on 3s, but the 4s was fun, would be a better aerobatic setup IMO, moved so fast alot of my footage was easy to blur

All right, some one in SD that flies Multi Rotors. I'm in Belle Fourche, currently have a vc-450 frame with copter control. Waiting for the right frame to mount my WKM equipment.

Kloner: So should I even try the 9x5x3's or just stick with the 10x6x3's? Sounds like I'd get a more stable flight from the 10's? That what I'm looking for - at least at this time in my very noob-ish skills with a quad. Right now I can easily get 15 minutes on the 3s battery with plenty left just in case. Will the DJI motors handle the 10's ok or will I need to move up to a bigger motor also?

Rick: Yes, I think it's you and me in this whole state. :) You should have PLENTY of nice flying space out your way.

try the 10x6, bet you'll like em. they still let the motors rev but are less touchy than the 2 blade i've tried. I'd stick with your motors if you can. I'm only changing over looking for reliability and a cheaper way to get out of a crash. Spent a fortune on replacement motors once, don't want to do it again. I'll hang onto my set of dji motors for if i crash, got a set i know will work. I had a heck of a time getting to this point....... crashed it the first flight, had massive vibes, to jello to this in 100 tries. 3 motors, 9 bearings, could use another shaft but got it rigged for now

The only thing i don't like is the 10x6x3 have really thick hubs. It doesn't leave a whole lot of room threads like the rest i've tried.

yes, there those....... i got some from rcdude.com and innov8tivedesigns.com

So i took it out and did a manual mode punchout, that's alot more like i was thinking it'd do, 48 amps total. in atti, it's alot less. this things a rocket in manual, eh? should seen it coming down. then i threw it in atti and took it up, the gps altitude showed going from 540 feet to 770 feet, all by eye. Can't wait to go to the desert and cut this thing loose, this is gonna be fun

The wind sure shoves it around though. gonna post my vid in a few, see if anybody's got any gain advice

theres the flick. i did alot of up and down a hill trying to get a feel for it, when i'd break cover and hit a wind going up, you can almost see it hit like a wall. Anytime theres a breeze, it gets all wobbly. That too high gain? Flies bitchen in the calm

Raise the basic gains a bit and lower the ATTI gains. Last flight I had the basics set for 150 and the ATTI at 70, smoothest flight I had so far in wind and also very nice for calm air and flying in manual.

Today I finally got the chance to try the F450 on a set of Graupner 8 x 5, really, really smooth, even in wind! Smaller props do make a big difference just like on its big brother the WKM. They seem like they'll be a super setup for use with the GoPro tie wrapped to the front although I didn't have time to try that today, I will soon. A bit disappointing for performance compared to the 10 x 5 Graupners I had on it though, I also have a couple sets of 9 x 5 that I bought along with the 8's, I'll try those next. I think the 9 x 5 may be the best all around compromise for use on 3S packs, have to see how well they work compared to the others.

do the graupners have alot of bite? are they like a speed, sport, slo fly type?

I've got some 2217's coming in i think are gonna want something bigger like 11x5, we'll see. i'm tempted to go fly these motors and train myself the fpv deal. i'm sure i'll dump this thing trying to bring her lower, and lower.

that vid was at 150-150 but 105 on atti, dropped it down to 70 and will go give it a shot.

well, now i'm all locked up, not sure which avenue is best. Just made 5 flights on 4s with the 10x6x3 and that's bar none the best it's flown yet. When it bobbles coming down it's a little smoother and a lot less. Picked up a little jello, but that's gotta be my cheap balancer, got a top flight on the way so that'll get taken care of shortly

You're talking about your own string of led's, not the f450 voltage indicator, right? Just want to make sure Naza / f450 is cool with 4s, I just ordered a couple 4s batteries and am waiting to test them out.

I just got my graupner 10x5's and 9x5's in. but I got the 9x5's thinking they would be best for 4s. Will see as soon as i get a prop reamer in. I forgot these dont have an 8mm hole. Last time I hand drilled a prop out, even on a drill press, it made for some awful jello on the gopro.
