bad drift please help!!!!!!!!

I have a stock f450 with naza and gps that will drift backward and to the right (drift is the wrong word, it flies backwards, i need about 16 trim on a 8FG for it to hold in place, it is very bad at start of flight but as the batteries run lower, the drift becomes less). I have had this craft and problem for about 6 months and just cant solve it. I have done 3 tear downs and rebuilds, moved/replaced some motors, removed all FPV gear/ landing legs, tried stock, APC, and Grupner props. i had used a DX6I but have switched to a Futaba 8fg to rule them out so its now down to just the F450 and Naza. The IMU calibration does not seem to work as I have done the bubble level thing, raised the back as high as 3 xbox cases and even tried raising the front for a test and could find no real difference after calibration. The compass calibrates with no apparent problem and once the gps was set for magnetic declination it flies straight, but the drift is so bad GPS will sometimes be unable to hold position. I have not contacted DJI or the dealer as the naza was an ebay buy in a different country. Pleases help, any suggestions or info is very much appreciated.

I don't see any mentions of CG, I presume after you stated all the above, you have been through all the steps that you did look into CG? Did you also try swapping out the ESC on the rear right to eliminate it as a problem?

I had a similar problem, turned out that I had mounted the NAZA with velcro and it was shifting and getting too much vibration. Is your naza mounted firmly in the center of the Quad facing forward? Also take a look at the gps location in the software, the positive and negative values throw people off.

flight controllers have to be firmly mounted, that's why they come with tape

i'd try putting your trims back to neutral and rebind the receiver again........ then re run naza tx cali......

Had that same problem / just fixed it

What corrected this issue for me was to mounting my gps on the supplied mast directly above the naza. On the upper deck. Make the right measurements in the naza software for gps location. Recalibrated gps and drift stopped and the toilet bowl affect. I also had tremendous help from Kloner who was kind enought to help this beginner get started on the right foot. Great guy:nevreness:

Thanks for all the answers
The CG is good, I also think ESC's could be the cause but I don't have any more to test and the Naza is held securely by the stock 3m pads.
Kloner the rebind is a great idea, will do that today and if no difference I will go back to the DX6I just to rule out the Futaba S.bus
Just to clarify I have removed the GPS and FPV gear and that made NO improvement so I know that stuff is not a factor. The craft is only DJI stock F450 frame, esc, motors and Naza-M

Can you move one of your ESC's to test this?.. Swap out the left rear for the right rear, test direction of motors and props and see if it drifts the other way.

If you are using the Standard 30 Amp OPTO ESC's, I do not think these can be calibrated.

Also check your radio for Sub-Trim settings, or mixes could be messing with you. I take it you're in Acrobatic mode or Airplane mode on your radio, right?

when dethro came to me this weekend, the bind was that it wasn't letting anything center so he had adjusted subtrims, but that wasn't the right way to do it. if you can calibrate the tx and all the bars look green, you should be good to go. Make sure throttle is at half stick and showing green as well.

he also had a motor going away, but that shouldn't have been as much of a drift as a flyaway type condition, was lucky it shook so bad it just went to the ground instead. his moving the gps to mast might have fixed alot of interference he may of had but it's not typical. seperation between the two was most likely all it needed ie move the rx away whether up, across, just seperate. Sattelite uses 1.2mhz, the second wave of 2.4

The impressive part was when Kloner looked at my TBS and my fpv set up. He was able diagnose exactly what was wrong and how to correct it with in a few minutes. It's very good to have a pro look at your F450 if you can find one in your area. It could be a combination of these issues making it drift and that could take awhile to iron out. I was lucky Kloner is close enough to drive to. If not I still would be trying to fix it. Most likely saying "ME TOO, AAAAAA"

Thanks foe the help. I have now removed the Futaba rx and tx and put the DX6I and rx back on the F450 and the problem is the same. So now I know it must be the Naza or rear right ESC( I have noticed the when I shout the motors down the rear right prop always stops rotation first) so I think and hope thats the culprit. I have ordered 1 from gonitrohobbys on Ebay but it wont get to my small mountain town for at lest 14 days. I sure wish there was someone with thees kinda things in my area but there is a very low population density here, the closest on the map is about 200+ miles.

that motor stopping first is usually a bearing issue or bent shaft makng a bearing issue. Easy way to tell is take off props and power it up in manual mode and rev the throttle. feel each arm for vibes, bet that motor you see stopping first shakes more than the rest. That was another thing Ro needed was a new motor........ pretty common. I've only lost esc's crashing in water.....

I actually cracked the solder on one of the motor connections on an ESC in a crash. When I unplugged the motor to replace a broken arm the whole female plug came out of the ESC. Re-soldered the connection and it is good as new!

Twice now I have suggested that you remove and swap with another ESC to see if that is your problem. I guess my suggestions carry no weight?

I live in Canada but order most things to shipping outlet in northwest Montana, uavproducts looks like a good place to shop I may be ordering things from them in the future. Sorry deanot you are right I did not acknowledge your suggestion but that will be the next thing to try I am about to move the rear right to the front left and I will post the outcome.

I switched motor 2 with motor 4s ESCs and that made no difference the F450 still fly's backwards. I wish someone did live near me so I could try a different Naza. I did a IMU recalibration with 6 xbox game cases under the rear arms IE: 3.5" raised and that made no difference, how much do you guys raise the side that drifts for IMU?
To summarize I have swapped motors, ESCs, RX and TX(dx6i to t8fg) props, battery's removed GPS, fpv gear/camera and legs. All that's left is Naza, VU, usb cable and assistant software, am I missing something?

Edit. Now useing cellphone cable and have reinstalled assistant software. no change still flys backwards FAST

Try posting pictures of your set up. Maybe it can be obviously seen why it drifts to someone else. take all the diffent angles.

Here are some pics of the many IMU calibrations(this is the most extreme) I have done over the last few days, both front and rear have been raised as much as 3.5" and I could not tell any difference in flight. The F450 always wants to fly backwards and somewhat to the right.
