Here's my first flight with the gimbal - looks reasonably smooth despite my very limited flying skills.....
Standard settings with the firmware it as shipped with 2 weeks ago - anyone know which version this is likely to be?

I believe that the first gimbals were sent out with r48 firmware?

I think you are right. But there was only a 30 degree pitch available, which is why I have loaded 61. I haven't tested it in flight but it looks smooth when played with in my shed.

You can always tap off the required voltage from your battery's balance plug. Blk is ground and each consecutive color is 3.7 vdc - 4.2 vdc depending on the state of charge of the donor battery.

Can this thing pitch down 90 degrees or not? I'd like to get one but don't want to waste my time.

Yes and anywhere in between/over, just follow Robs instructions to update the firmware, (does not take long at all). From what I have set up and seen I would recommend the gimbal.

Jimska, No the orignial gimbals were shipped with firmware BruGi_049B_r48 but if you upgrade, as I did, to BruGi_049B_r61 it works with 180 degree pitch. E-mail Rob and ask if the new firmware will be included in the later ones. I suspect that it will not be until Rob is satisfied with feedback that there are no issues with the new firmware.
the _r48 firmware works very well but the restriction of only 30 degrees pitch was an issue if you wanted to control pitch from you transmitter. If the solution was quickly made available and Rob was already testing it himself. I think he was being cautious in releasing it with r48 knowing it worked well. However, the release of _r61 is the solution for those of us who sometimes need to photograph looking directly down from the machine.

The upshot to your question is no if it comes loaded with firmware _r48 and yes if it shipped with _r61, but if not shipped with _r61 you can upgrade it yourself and it works very well....... Yes and No but with some effort from you Yes and Yes.

For the peole out there who wondered about the robustness of the aeroxcraft landing gear. It isn't at all rigid being held together with cable ties but that may be it's strength as may be demonstrated here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGzuudEGSyU I'm sure we've all flown into the odd stainless steel monument at some time . . . . The landing gear was fine as was the gimble which also took part of the hit

I think some are worried that the flimsiness means it is not tough but that is strength.. It is flexible and yes it can break but in the process absorbs most of the impact. Ever heard of a crumple zone on a car. That is exactly how I see it working.

Is there any significant difference between Software version: 049B_61 and _77?

On the download page for 049 r61 it says that the GUI is not up to date - do you use the one from 049 r69?
I was going to use r61 as Rob has posted typical values for this version.

Yeah I have, works fine...just wondered if anyone had used both r69 and r77, wondered what the difference was. On a different note, great flight tonight....got back and my gopro black has stopped recording after 30secs FFS...getting pissed of with it..

Thanks - I'll try it tomorrow.
My Hero 3 black has been fine since I manually updated the firmware - I'm using Sandisk 32gb class 10 cards.

So it turns out I can't quite get things to work the way I wanted them to. Been trying to roll back to firmware r61 (or anything, for that matter ) and keep getting this error code after running the update:

avrdude: stk500_getsync ( ): not in sync: resp=0x00

Any suggestions guys? Thanks!

Did you sort the windows 7 drivers as recommended?

I'm running XP. Not sure what's wrong here, because the connection worked perfectly the other day when I updated to r77. Now I get this error no matter which update I try to install.

Thank you guys for your help. I'm really not familiar with windows anymore... I'm used to computers that "just work" ;)
