    Day #2 - On the ESCs, they were recommended by Gryphon Dynamics who also are flying those on their models...? Build goes ok so far but requires good planning for placement of the electronics.

    So the package finally arrived. GD X8 with Z shaped booms, X motor upgrade, 1200mm U7 420 motors / 19" props Hobbywing Platinum pro 60A ESCs Gryphon powerboard/BEC Flight controller: TBD, despite A2 picture...I am still not sure I want to trust this frame with this one....

    Well that really depends on you mount it...which points to the main advantage of 550 -> fully configurable. But the phantom is easier to carry...

    Well you also need to contract mandatory special insurance for your bicycles :-)...at the same time insurance is relatively cheap. It is more a problem for those who don't know and assume that flying a little 'toy' needs no special coverage.

    yeah well in Switzerland you need an insurance with coverage of $1.1 million if your drone is above 500grams - so there is a business here - pretty sure many newcomers to RC through Phantom had no clue about this...but it is in the law...

    I think that fundamentally the problem is the usage of those drones outgrew and outpaced manufacturers and regulators. DJI found themselves - opportunistically - in a market segment which maybe they did not intend to compete in and they did not fully understand the implications. All because...

    Stupid regulations ...everywhere

    Anyway for now the regulation is so confusing the whole RC community is putting all activities on hold until they are sure flying a phantom does not land you a $12K fine. Great stuff.
