I always shield the IR led from sunlight. I use a small length of heatshrink (unshrunk!) cut at the top to form an open flap that covers the IR sensor window. You can test an IR led by operating whilst viewing it with a digital camera. The camera can see it 'lighting up'.

Given that the integrity of the radio link is paramount the choice of frequency for the video link should be carefully considered. I use 2.4g for the radio and 5.8g for the video but I fly LOS only. Anything 'FPV' needs good range. The higher bandwidth of 5.8g will give you a better video image...

All very good an' all ... but how I emphatically abhor the GoPro view. For a device designed to self-portrait a dude on his surfboard, mounting a GoPro on a helicopter represents the epitome of mis-deployment of equipment. Still, I'm really chuffed that everybody else uses it though.

Where have you found the Z15-GH3? It was only officially announced last Friday and I don't see it listed on any dealer sites yet?

Only two things come to mind and they have both been touched on here. a) the Tx channel needs to be reversed (as in servo reverse) b) the left and right servo plugs into the small circuit on the left leg are in the wrong places, i.e. left servo plugged into right servo's hole.
