Similar to my batwing camera mount for the f450/550, they do indeed stiffen up the arms and help with vibration a lot. I'd be surprised if these didnt help on the s800 as well.

I think someone just posted this recently confirming that the Hoverfly does its gyro initialization when you arm it, not plug it in.

correct. AFAIK, there is no failsafe even with the gps. You can manually RTH, but it is not self landing nor triggered automatically by low voltage. What you can do however is set up your radio where it will activate RTH when it loses signal. I am too scared of AH to answer that question.
