Batteries -- A big one or two in parallel?

If I recall correctly, on average one will lose about 1 minute of flight time for each 100 grams.

    Why are retracts so expensive?

I must admit that retracts look very sexy...... but they add significant weight and add to the complexity of a setup.... I prefer the Cinestar strategy...... the landing gear does not retract.... it simply rotates with the camera so that the legs are never in the camera FOV.

    Hexacopter flew away/disappereared

More information is required to help you with this,e.g., Did you return the FC to GPS mode before attempting to activate the fail safe switch? What RC radio system did you use with it? For the $1000 you paid for repairs, were any DJI parts replaced such as FC or GPS/compass module? 1) Was...

    FrSky/Taranis Owners Thread

Similar? Not entirely sure but...... The VSI = Vertical Speed Indicator is referred to as a Variometer more specifically when applied to SailPlanes, Hang Gliders. ParaSails, Hot Air balloons. If I understand it correctly..... a more sophisticated unit with higher accuracy will incorporate a...

    FrSky/Taranis Owners Thread

The variometer is a bit more sophisticated than a self-referencing barometer, i.e., altimeter..... It is more proactive than an altimeter providing instantaneous rate of climb or descent rate data. It is useful for flying at a distance and for FPV. With the Taranis Xmitter, I would assume it...

The Next Steps... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

StuR, Longer motor arms work to your advantage in terms of super flight stability for extra smooth aerial video work as well as allowing you more upgrade capability for larger diameter props with more powerful motors. With this in mind the 900mm motor arm length can prove to be a bit...

GoPro 3+ What video settings work best for you?

I found I was able to get very good results with the GoPro3 Black by setting the video to 2.7K, 30 fps and fov to narrow. BGC stability is also critical ofcourse as these BGCs are prone to tiny ripple vibrations on one or both axes until one really gets the %PWM in the sweet spot as well as...

Need help tracking down dangerous operator.

Coming soon..... V2V, i.e., Vehicle to Vehicle Avoidance systems...... @ 5.9Mhz. I have not investigated if it is feasible for small flying objects, but keep in mind that the reason that we are all benefiting from ultra-low cost IMUs for MRs is, in part, because of the mass production of micro...

Fit-For-Purpose BGC System for the Panasonic GH3

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__51496__Turnigy_PRO_Steady_Hand_Gimbal_3_Axis_KIT.html Seems to be a more precise fit and weight for a Panasonic GH3 or GH4.... Set the hand assembly aside and make some adjustments to fit existing anti-vibe plates. 2 of the 3 52XX motors and the BGC can...

yet another A2 toilet bowl question

Other possibilities that contribute toilet bowl effect... 1) Horizontal center of gravity is not positioned in the center of the MR hub 2) The x/y position of the FC relative to c of g of the MR was not accurately entered in to the FC via Assistant software. 3) The position coordinates of the...

    Iosd MK2 stops working

Not I.... but it seems that the video signal is still passing thru the iOSD successfully which seems to imply that the iOSD communication with the FC has faltered..... could be a loose or defective cable or the iOSD is running too hot.... there is a warning in the documentation as to possible...

DJI S1000 Owners Thread - Mini Build Log

Spare Parts Inventory I had similar issues with a brand new top of the line ASUS Notebook PC a few years back. The battery failed within the warranty period. Retailer indicated the manufacturer had not yet released the new replacements into North America yet. But I was able to get one within 4...

    FPV'ers are obtaining HAM licenses?

Cra-Z-1, In the case of 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz spread spectrum and fh-spread spectrum the risk of radio interference is considered nearly non-existent.... hence no victims nor need to protect others from radio interference problems in these bands. In the case of transmission on a licensed frequency...

    FPV'ers are obtaining HAM licenses?

DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD IDEA! I have a 31 page Powerpoint presentation from the HAM radio course on the regulations and consequences of violation that I can send anyone that is interested. It is guaranteed to make such a person think twice. Depending upon the nature of the violation the penalties...

Death by Research: Help me pull the trigger!!

I started off with the Flamewheel Hex F550 then decided I needed longer arms to accommodate larger props with better motors. So I ended up going this way and with no regrets. http://www.rctimer.com/product_809.html Chose these motors...

First major incident: Need help with diagnosis

I agree with R_Lefebvre.... Also with this all have something to do with the fact that a lot of ESCs still have a combination of P and N - FETs.... whereas the more rugged ones have 100% N - FETs that can handle the higher speed + pulse rates without overheating?
