Finally finished up our last video of a marina by the Long Island Sound

As the story unfolds a pull back is used to take the viewer away from that scene, so it is better to start out wide and then come in. Just my opinion... some nice wide rotationals at high level. I would avoid the high level pan and go with a turning straight run. fixed point pans have to be half...

    Climbing the evolutionary MR Ladder.

I got into Mr's about seven years ago and like many I wanted larger and more powerful machines that could lift heavy cameras. Some weird designs followed and about the only FC around at that time was MK but for reliability reasons I turned to a benchmark KK board. There were a lot of...

25mmD.x64 G titanium tube may be more useful. Plenty of it in Russia.

19 year old killed by his RC Helicopter in NY

We had a similar accident in Cyprus. A disorientation command sent a hovering 450 with wooden blades into this guys head. The first strike removed all of his teeth, the seconded smashed his cheek bone then the third broke his jaw. it then attacked his back and opened him up. 14 major operations...

Naza-M Electic Spark Connecting Battery. Now GPS Position Hold does not Work

Before doing that I would check the compass calibration in the latest Software. Also when you turn it on don't move anything for a few seconds. On a recent job that I did I could not start on a level platform as I was in a boat. At the start of each days shooting I did the compass reset and...

    WARNING - Firmware 5.24

The first thing to remember is that the Video Tx should as far away from all other stuff as possible. It could reduce your range by 50% Also never power the TX/Camera unit with a direct line from the battery. It will have noise on the line from the ESC's. For LRS I use 1.2 gig with clover leaf...

    WARNING - Firmware 5.24

Dave I don't suppose you are using a 2.4 gig video Tx. by chance along with the V2 IMU/OSD.... That could be the problem. I don't fly anything AP on 2.4 these days. Only UHF. WiFi on a GoPro will bring a phantom down for sure. But that is a crappy radio.

    WARNING - Firmware 5.24

If you are considering alternatives why not use Naza M? It works for me, but then so does WKM v1 with GPS V.2, I don't use the GPS except for a few special jobs. I am also using one of my old boards that has stood the test of time and saves a lot of weight. My alternative that is proving...

    PU adhesive gel

Why don't you just follow the instructions. If the IMU moves in a different sync. with the airframe then your motors and ESC's will overheat and burn out. Any movement however small at the imu mounting will cause this to happen. If you have a vibration issue then fix it at the source of the...

    PU adhesive gel

You should not mount your IMU's on soft mounts as it will create an additional movement which will be seen by the gyros. The IMU has the correct mounting frequency pads inside. DJI do actually tell you to use their own mounting tape for this reason.

Hoverfly What Makes Good Aerial Video

What MR or SR filming brings to the table is a refreshing alternative to the conventional full size technologies. The lower level experience is there to be exploited in may new ways. But the traditional rules will never change. You can get away with something artfully different once, but then it...

    Stingray See It, Fly It!

I think it is a very refreshing concept that has a lot going for it. Best of both worlds. I'm sure that with his electronic skills it wont be long before Curtis gets a fully auto stabilizing controller working. Not so sure you could not configure something like APM to do that job.

Caught on camera, multirotor crashes into crowd at Great Bull Run

That company took down the video but what I saw was a set of radial mounted coil windings that float the magnets above. The rotation is as simple as a normal brushless or encoder controller but in this case the vibration is sampled at the camera and then a reverse wave form is aligned into that...

Caught on camera, multirotor crashes into crowd at Great Bull Run

Even DJI hinted at NAB that the future of aerial filming is with small quad craft and it has already been seen that other manufacturers are going to start competing against the Phantom with more advanced features. Sub 1kg. models made from EPP and similar materials will start to appear. The...

Live stream from ReadyMade RC FPV

Absolutely right it is only a matter of time before one of these things disappears into the inlet of a fast jet coming from behind. The pilot of a military jet would see a model in front of him for less than two seconds. even in the cruise you are looking at 420 knots. In the UK you will have...

Hoverfly What Makes Good Aerial Video

The best way to make interesting videos is to fly in front of more interesting subjects. Who really wants to sit there waiting to see if the the grass in front of the camera is ever going to move. Or is he going to do yet another lap of the garden shed. Hose piping everything in sight is another...

Caught on camera, multirotor crashes into crowd at Great Bull Run

I know of at least 20 pilots who have killed themselves in the last 30 years and other people as well whilst engaged in low level aerial filming. Mostly helicopters. That has not stopped aerial filming, It has changed a few rules and regs. but the underlying fact is that you can still go out...

Caught on camera, multirotor crashes into crowd at Great Bull Run

I also forgot to mention that some of these new cameras have stabilized lenses that can automatically level the horizon and provide stabilization in five axis. There is a drawback in that these cameras will be much too sensitive to vibration for general MR use.
