My Octo Doesn’t Lift Enough or Fly Long Enough – What Can I Do?

Lot's of data but no evidence that proper engineering design has been performed. If no engineering, then, at the very least, a solid knowledge of how to use eCalc for Multirotors is critical...... QUOTE=questech;129976]Hello Everyone :nevreness: My goal is to build an octocopter that will be...

What could cause sudden voltage drop?

6 or 8 motors operating simultaneously draws an excessive amount of current especially when the motors startup since starting current can be up to 300% of normal running current. If you are using 20C rated batteries, the MR will be taking off in burst mode which can only last about 15...

I hope Carrollton paid you for that because it makes us want to go there....... as tourists....... and all done with a Phantom..... well done.

    F550 Camera set-up: HELP!

Here is ecalc...... laws of physics rule!!! http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.htm?ecalc&lang=en You will likely want a minimum of 2 axis gimbal and brushless versus the earlier servo type.... but servo type will be cheaper and possibly lighter. The GoPro3 is only 72 grams but the gimbal systems...

    Tracker

This company offers a variety of GPS tracking devices for High Power Rocketry and they work extremely well and at very long range..... Note that one or two models require a HAM radio license. http://www.bigredbee.com/brb900.htm

    Wookong-M Failure... Whats new?

25C batteries don't seem appropriate from my perspective...... certainly not for a 40 lb MR. Motor currents can jump up to 300% above normal operating current under two conditions. 1) Motor start and 2) Attempting to overcome downward momentum of your aircraft. Since g force is an exponential...

    Wookong-M Failure... Whats new?

Seems to me that the C rating of the batteries could make quite a difference. A 65C rated battery would not fade under heavy load while a 20C battery could lead to a brownout and the results you indicate....... Unfortunately the small size of the WKM flight computer does not allow for...

    ESC configuration for DJI WooKong

I am using the Turnigy Multistar Opto 45amp ESCs c/w Turnigy Multistar 22 pole 420kv motors. BTW....There are some other settings that are also unclear to me.

    ESC configuration for DJI WooKong

What are the appropriate ESC configurations to be used with the WooKong? Should brake be set to off, medium or hard?

    Wookong-M Failure... Whats new?

But how are your ESCs programmed? They can be configured for slow down cutoff or hard cutoff..... There is also a brake configuration to be made with the ESCs. The WooKong cannot override these ESC configurations.

Carbon Fiber Props Deteriorating ~ Failing

Yes I understand now...... one needs to adjust each blade pitch to eliminate the torque you are talking about....... but the only way to do that is with the collective pitch concept.......... and that adds far too much complexity to a MR!!!!

    Vibration Detector....cool little gadget

ChrisViper......Thanks for sharing.... that is good info..... too bad the iOSD does not have a vibration sensor input capable of 1 to 200Hz.

Carbon Fiber Props Deteriorating ~ Failing

R_Lefebvre...... You have provided some excellent information here. Apparently the reasoning behind DJI's use of a pivoting blade design for their new S800 EVO. From what I have read thus far, the optimum ratio of carbon fiber fabric to epoxy resin for maximum strength to weight ratio is 40%...

Carbon Fiber Props Deteriorating ~ Failing

Even a glider..... a plane without a motor.... can be pushed to reach a descent speed that allows the airframe to begin to severely vibrate..... This is called the airframe's resonant frequency which typically starts on the wings or tail section. if allowed to continue too long at this critical...

    Large spark from XT90 connectors

Apparently even batteries have, in addition to internal resistance, some internal capacitance (not to be confused with capacity) especially those batteries that are constructed in a manner similar to a foil wrapped capacitor such as the LiPo. Using a commercial capacitance meters one could...

    3 Wire Braiding!

I have noticed that the Carbon Fiber frames typically have the 3 wires between each motor and ESC run inside of each CF tube.......... BUT BRAIDED! Is there any advantage to that considering that there can be no emi/rfi inside these tubes?

    Aerial Videos of Golf courses

OK.... I've done that it is seems to be the best option overall. Also...... How do people handle situations where the golfers suddenly show up on the fairway or at the tee box?..... I don't like to fly over anyone even if they, the course marshal and golf course management are not concerned...

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

One of my aerial videos appears here...... golf courses are a challenge, especially the 500 yard fairways...... one in a tight little coulee/canyon with line of sight radio signal risks.... had to locate myself on a cliff 200 yards from the tee-off to get it right.
