First the Go Pro Karma and now the DJI Mavic

So I just read up on the DJI Mavic. It has some impressive features like follow mode and other modes that make it very attractive to the first time drone buyer. It boasts 27 minutes of flight time and 4 miles of range? WTF! It kind of stole the Karma's thunder. Once again time will tell if it...

    Go Pro hero 5

The specs say "reduced distortion" so maybe its less. I had a non fish eye lens installed on my hero 3 and they called it "distortion free".

    Go Pro hero 5

I agree, my wife has the newest Samsung galaxy and it takes noticeably good photos. Its frustrating that a drunk college kid on spring break can accidentally take a stunning photo that rivals one a professional photographer with years of experience and thousands of dollars of equipment can. Same...

    Go Pro hero 5

Time will tell. On the surface it looks like a winner but people have to buy them and like them and they have to keep expanding the line and improving. I would say it boils down to marketing at this point, if they can generate enough interest and get some momentum going it will take off. That's...

    Motor One Stops On Quad!

You could reverse 2 of the motor/ESC control wires on the FC and if the other motor stopped, it would confirm it was the FC. If the same motor stopped I would say its the ESC or motor. You would have to do this test with the props off for obvious reasons.

Anyone still fly MULTIROTOR? AP SHIP? NOT DRONE!

I would say that drone means autonomous. Meaning it can fly a mission without any operator inputs. But everyone says drone so I guess drone it is.

    It’s Here! The GoPro Karma

From watching the videos it looks like a winner. Assuming there are no buggy issues with the FC like fly aways etc I think it edges out the phantom slightly because its more portable plus you get a go pro and a gimbal that can be used separately from the drone.

    Go Pro hero 5

So it looks like go pro may not have jumped the shark after all. The hero 5 is cheaper than the 4 and it has better features plus its waterproof (resistant). No more case. It assembles time lapse into a video without further editing. Shoots 4k, voice activated. Looking forward to seeing some...

Help recommend drone for medium ice cream payload

An easy first build would be a 550 flame wheel. The flame wheel 450 is a quad, the 550 is a hex which may give you a little more payload capability. They are very common and parts are easily available. You can buy a kit that only requires assembly or buy everything separate. There are tons of...

Commercial Operations of sAUS in the US now Legal

I'm currently studying for the test. I believe there are 2 company's that proctor the test or at least that's how I understood it. It was recommended that I register with one of them to take the test which I haven't done yet. Its $150 to take the test. It appears that the background check is...

How To Get Great HDR Images From Your Drone Videos

I downloaded the free version of this software and played with it a little. I like it because it will grab a still from a video and improve it. My current video editing program wont capture a still or I haven't learned how to do it yet. I have not been able to get the quality that you have got...

Attention, Hobby Flyers: Come Monday Some Of You May Need An FAA Drone Pilot Certificate

No the hobby rules do not apply to part 107. I got into a huge discussion on a FB group that I am on with a that guy insists that the feds are bound and determined to go after the FPV mini quad racers and shut them down. FPV isn't really covered under hobby rules and especially part 107 but...

What are your go-to sites for parts?

I meant gothelirc not helipal. They are in Chandler AZ. The hobbyking warehouse is great, they have then on both the east and west coast. They don't carry as much as the china warehouse but they seem to be getting better everyday. multi rotor mania is in Sacramento and I can get stuff overnight...

What are your go-to sites for parts?

I try to stay with US based companys first. I understand this stuff is mostly made in China and all they are doing is marking up the price and reselling it but if there's a problem with my order at least I can call them up and talk to someone in English. Secondly I try to get a supplier as close...

Attention, Hobby Flyers: Come Monday Some Of You May Need An FAA Drone Pilot Certificate

I'm not sure how accurate this article is. The way I understand it is there is still a distinction between hobby and commercial operations and part 107 does not allow FPV, only VLOS so the whole drone racing part has to be false. And I'm not sure about the TSA vetting thing either, are we...

Movi M5, Like New with DX8 and copter mount kit

Well looks like I'm going to miss out on this one by a couple of months. Will probably be seriously looking for a higher end gimbal in Dec or Jan when I will have the cash saved up.

Anyone still fly MULTIROTOR? AP SHIP? NOT DRONE!

Yeah, unfortunately the word "drone" won out over multirotor. Give credit to the media for using it over and over again in negative articles. I still try to be correct and say multirotor but everyone recognizes the term drone.

Just the fact that everything works and its connected to the assistant is a small victory. Some people never get that far
