IMO - You can remove two arms from the F550 to make a quad and still lift a hard mounted GoPro w/o the housing and/or gimbal and landing legs..... As soon as you need to add a gimbal and landing legs you need to use all six motors/arms.....even then your flights will be short.... best to use...
