    Mikrokopter Octo Shape

It looks as if you would get slightly less prop clearance if you used a square v round as per the photo. Of course you could just increase the length of all the booms on the square but without getting the old protractors etc out, Im not sure how exact this is- just a thought.

I need some help with my octo.

Your motors are starting at different times because you haven't calibrated the ESCs to your transmitter- this is something independent of the WKM. Look up your ESC documentation on how to do this but it is part of usual setup ie the ESCs need to know the end points of your TX. The most common...

    Long Distance Challenge

Well, having spent 18 years as an officer in the military including procurement postings, you would be amazed at how often it is actually the other way around, especially since the end of the cold war. During the cold war the need to push mil tech meant that often the mil lead the way but now...

    XAircraft SuperX

I would not see the 'home lock' as a make or break feature. If you loose orientation the best thing is not to panic. Just allow the MR to hover, yaw a little, add some left and right movement to see how it reacts until you regain orientation. It's' all about keeping a cool head. Manual is a...

    DJI S1000 price

The cost is indeed $10,000 or at least it will be by the time you have paid for all of the damage caused by flips of death etc!

    Current state of Wookong?

I bought my WKM in Jan but I have upgraded the IMU to the metal version

    Current state of Wookong?

End of a two day shoot and had a motor failure.

Nice stuff Ben. I'm always amazed at how calm horses often are with an MR buzzing around given that every now and then they spook at their own shadows! Not sure as to what was causing the motor dramas but it can only really be a loose connection on the ESC to WK side or on the power side. My...

Do you have to remove the Red esc wire ??

The red wire generally has two functions depending on how the ESC is designed. If the ESC has a built in BEC ie it can provide voltage to the receiver, then the red wire is used to provide that power. So, if this is being plugged into a receiver that already has power such as the WKM MC then you...

    Help please

+1 on ESC calibration. If this is not done correctly then you can end up without the motors starting until the throttle stick is nearly half way up!

    6s lipo question

It doesn't' matter what the cell count is it is the individual cells that matter. If you stick to the 'only use 80% of the batteries capacity' rule then you will be landing with each cell at around 3.7v/3.8v. This not only ensures a good life for the battery but also gives you a small reserve...

Does someone saw the Zero Gemini Redundant Autopilot?

This is the sort of thing that needs to become common if we are to ensure that the industry operates as safely as possible. As for this particular system, no ideas yet and I don't fancy beta testing for them at this stage!

5.8Ghz power levels in the UK

Regarding the Ham licence, Ofcom are very clear on this- it is not applicable. Look at section 11 of the link I posted; . I can't remember where I read the full description off the Ofcom website but the Ham licence is a non starter for transmitting video from an airborne platform.

5.8Ghz power levels in the UK

I guess the only way to find out is to give Ofcom a call and see what they think. My guess is that providing the chances of causing interference is slim then they will be happy to grant a license.

5.8Ghz power levels in the UK

Due to what I do I get to see a lot of different multi-rotors and I know of only one that uses 25mW video TX (ie mine) all of the others I have seen use power way over this- a classic device being the DJI video TX/RX AVL58. What I wanted to do was to find out the definitive answer of what is...

Motor angle dihedral What’s the deal with this?

All this shimming is pointless to me. It might indeed give better stability or agility but my MR with vertical alignment is more than stable and agile enough. More importantly however is how my gimbal reacts to the aircraft. It can handle its movements now without even breaking into a sweat so I...

    Geotagging (GPS) of photos

Canon do a GPS tagging device for their cameras. Not sure what they are like and perhaps a bit expensive but it is called a GP-E2 if you are interested. Plugs directly into the camera's hot-shoe and automatically tags the photos

    Triggering a camera automatically

Andy, in short no. Because you are using the F channels to control motors 7 and 8 you cannot use these for anything else. Also, if your gimbal is stabilised in the pan axis then there is no real way to get the signal from the WKM to the camera as there are no slip ring contacts ie the wires will...

Take free flying lessons from this guy!

Flying in manual on the WKM is not that bad at all. I regularly fly my SRH using the VBAR at its most responsive setting and I find my Skjib flies very similarly in manual which compared to Atti or GPS is like holding a tiger by the tail as mentioned before. But, having flown some highly...

Am I dumb for wanting a Cinestar 6?

If you want to go for a bigger rig then go for it, don't' hold back. I have built a lot of machines and I find that the Cinestar range are hard to beat. I have a Skyjib 8 and would swap it for a Cinestar 8 in a flash if I could. However, before you buy, look fully into the costs of the various...
