    UK CAA flight test

Happy days! I hope that they are quicker at getting the paperwork through to you. It took me just over two months to get my paperwork once I had passed my flight test- inexcusable. I took my test at the end of May so perhaps they were busy. It took over a month for the paper work to leave...

    New Guy

Great to have you! I hope you find the forum as friendly and useful as I have. There really is no such thing as a dumb question here and what's nice is that most of the really experienced guys still remember the days when they were noobs so will fully understand your worries, concerns etc...

Considering getting DX18, what other options should I consider?

I have a DX18 and the Jeti- if you can afford the Jeti then it is absolutely the one to go for. But at twice the price this might be a mute point. The DX18 is excellent and I will also vouch for Horizon Hobby support. I broke my DX18 in an accident and it was turned around very quickly at...

    General Advice and opinions please

Hello and welcome. Im not into FPV at all as such (only due to time otherwise I would be all over it like a rash) but I reckon the DJI packages are excellent value although I would stay away from the DJI downlink. Not because its a bad link, far from it, but it is not designed for FPB so to say...

    Hi, from melbourne Australia

Morning fella, and welcome. Your CP experience will help massively here. My fist build of a multi was a Skyjib 8 heavy and the build went very smoothly. Hopefully you will find this forum every bit as friendly as Helifreaks- at least that is what I have found.

A2 losing height in forward flight

Perhaps it is where you have mounted the IMU. Air passing over the IMU will could cause a drop in pressure around the IMU hence a drop in height. I am purely guessing here.

A2 losing height in forward flight

Dare I say it, it could just be an optical illusion if you are flying away from yourself. Just a thought.

New to the forums and was looking for some advice.

Hi Mangoats and welcome to the forums. I wonder how this motor will compare to the T-Motor MN4014s?

    Question regarding RTH

Yup, to regain control you need to flick to manual- just very briefly so don't worry, but you need to flick in and out of manual. You don't even need to flick the go to home switch back to its normal position.

I flew over London at 500ft

I have been a big fan of the CAA considering the way they could have approached the whole business. Very forward thinking in my mind and leading the way forward. Oh, and the class of aircraft, it's my Skyjib 8 that is cleared to a MTOM of 18.5kgs and was flying at 14.5kgs today

I flew over London at 500ft

Managed to get a flight over central London today at 500ft. Awesome. And the best bit was, it was all fully sanctioned by the CAA and NATS! I'll get a shot or two posted in a couple of days time when I get back to base.

    colin guinn booted from DJI

But even the dealers who can spell DJI and bend over backwards to help their customers can only go so far without solid behind the scenes support of DJI

Bad idea turning off TX in flihgt?

Although in the UK regs it states that the aircraft should return home on a comms link failure, it is interesting to see that the EuroUSC guys seem to have a similar view to ours ie they flick the go home switch in order to test rather than ask you to turn off the TX- well, they did during my...

    Zenmuse Z15 GH2 or Z15 GH3?

The GH2 is an excellent gimbal. I have had experience of the Zen being ejected on a crash but thankfully not on my rig. Without doubt, this saved the gimbal from a lot of damage. I have had no problems with my Zen what so ever. It's a tried and tested design whereas the GH3 version is still...

    For you WooKong owners

There also appears to be a scorch mark on the side of the casing. I wonder if this is a result of the dip in the water or one of the other potential causes of his crash?

Bad idea turning off TX in flihgt?

I see a lot of people like to turn off their TX whilst flying their MRs, principally to test the got to home feature. This has never sat particularly easy with me as whilst most of the time I can see this working well, it just doesn't seem like good airmanship to kill the command link on...

    British MR fliers UNITE

This is what I find odd about the difference between the two: why don't you get an airframe number as at the end of the day the RPQ-S and the EuroUSC course should all be delivering a common standard which is dictated by the CAA? Hmmmm, hopefully commonality will be reached if it hasn't happened...

    NooB from Ohio

Welcome to the forum Gary. What's said above is absolutely correct and in terms of research, this forum is superb. No such thing as a dumb question here (but certainly some dumb answers as someone the other day put it so well). I hope you like the new addiction as that is what it will be if not...

    IOS Ground station altitude

Hi Rich. Quick caveat, my knowledge spans from the PC version of the GS and not the latter IOS version so I could be well off here. It looks like you have altitude rather than height as the way the GS calculates the waypoints. If you are using Altitude, especially over water, it can cause some...
