    Explain opto esc

I don't know of any multirotor ESC's that are truly opto. The only ones I know for sure are large (typically 100+ Amps) helicopter and airplane ESC's. The KDE ESC's might be, but I'm not sure. There isn't necessarily a secondary battery. You can use the primary battery to power all the...

    Explain opto esc

Real opto means that the signal side (3-pin plug) is completely electrically separate from the power side (battery and motor). In fact, even the ground should not have continuity between the signal ground and battery ground. This is true optical isolation. It completely eliminates any and all...

    T-motor ESC's heavily filtered?

Hi guys, I was recently trying to help somebody tune a Carbon Cortex with a Pixhawk on it, equiped with... 16" T-motor props and I'm not sure which motors (assume appropriate). It had T-motor ESC's, I think maybe 40A? I had more difficulty tuning this machine than ever before, Arducopter...

This video demonstrates how I feel when a 3-axis DSLR gimbal actually works.

LOL I wish I could dance like that! And I wish I had a gimbal that worked! Scratch built Nex5 gimbal with AM 8-bit: Fail (actually, this one sort of worked other than horizon fail). Lotus RC PTZ-F Nex5 gimbal with AM 32-bit: Epic Fail 2 scratch built Sony AS100V gimbal attempts: Fail Fail...

    3DR anyone else having problems??

Yeah, very true. Last time I wrote something like that in a corporation, just internally, but I said "This was my fault. I will make sure it doesn't happen again." A week later I was fired. The issue wasn't even a big deal at all. Last time I'll ever do that. Weasel words and double-speak...

    3DR anyone else having problems??

Hey guys, Vu Tran posted this on Facebook a couple days ago. I thought I would repost it here.

    Garbage on APM CLI

I assume you have upgraded to AC3.2 recently? CLI is deprecated for AC3.2 on APM-class hardware, as a requirement due to lack of memory for other more important features.

    INAVerr driving me nuts!

There has been some discussion of this recently, and new info presented by Craig Elder, formerly of 3DR: I now believe that these INAV errors are cases where the GPS signal noise causes the Inertial Navigation system to reject the GPS position and/or velocity reporting. Different people have...

obstacle avoidance sensors for autonomous quadcopter

Arducopter has native support for sonar and Lidar used as an altimeter only. Using them for collision avoidance is not yet supported in any way. I am working on it on behalf of a client, but it requires a lot of custom changes to the program. It is not an easy talk to solve at all.

Very Interesting! Linux/APM flight control system!

Not just that... He flew the plane over the internet from another city. And it was busy compiling the Linux kernel as it flew, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the pre-empt code that has been developed. Basically, the processor was running wide-open doing something not related to flying...

New Collision Avoidance System for multi-rotor heli's

Thanks! So it says 3D camera, and "structured light". What is that, Lidar? Definitely, Intel seems like the winner so far. Hopefully it's accessible technology.

New Collision Avoidance System for multi-rotor heli's

I'm trying to figure out if that Intel system is just a bunch of sonar sensors, or if it's visual. Doesn't appear to be Lidar. They really don't give any info. I am already working on integrating Lidar collision avoidance with Arducopter. It's pretty much 1D at this point though. It's...

Want to use xt60s on a 8awg wire but the wire is too big

This should be telling you something. Use a bigger plug. I can't believe DJI would use an XT60 on the S800? Are they nuts?

    Canada sUAV regulations moving forward

Yeah, I actually happened upon that yesterday too. That Appendix J is interesting. I wonder why that would even be required? Is it for commercial operation at a MAAC field? Does it mean that MAAC insurance is enough for operation at a MAAC field? What exactly does this mean? The UAV...

MR Product list of no replacement parts

Tarot usually has good parts support, so I'd be surprised if this wasn't just temporary. I've got one of these frames on order, currently been lost in transit since Dec 3rd :( Frankly, the price on this frame is so low, I won't cry if I had to buy an extra frame for spares. Consider the...

    Canada sUAV regulations moving forward

Well, that's my point. ;) That is supposed to be a link to the document, but it's broken. There are links to that document in several places on the TC website, as it's required reading to submit an SFOC. But all the links are dead. The document no longer exists, and there is no replacement...

    Canada sUAV regulations moving forward

Anybody else notice that the brand new SFOC regulations seemed to have been pulled down? Is something happening? Are they being reworked already? http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/managementservices-referencecentre-documents-600-623-001-972.htm

Downside to picking a slightly larger motor?

Carapau, I don't think it's quite that simple. The overheating problem in heli motors which are over-geared has more to do with current than it does simple throttle application. In a SRH heli application, throttle is used to control rotor speed. If your pinion is too large, and you are using...

    New Y6 Tri-Trooper 900mm & Pixhawk

Nope, brushless motor is not a servo. That's a great idea to use the 5V supply from the Y6 board, and then a backup BEC. You do not need a diode, as the Pixhawk contains a 3-in-1 ideal diode controller. Basically, a modern power control system that is better than diodes. It basically has 3...

    Reading settings / logs help

Hi Phil, I'm not an expert on Autotune, but it does look like something went wrong there. Is there any reason your frame would respond asymmetrically? Maybe the way the batteries are mounted? Do you have a camera and gimbal installed? I would expect normally the roll and pitch numbers would...
