Must have lost reception....

Probably 70 feet up and maybe 150 feet away, just went over the tops of some trees behind my house and i lose all control, my f450 first kinda hesitated and i thought wtf, then it started drifting and i realized i hand no control, crazy part is i was able to cut the motors off... AR8000 and my dx8. Shouldnt i get better range lol. I want to fpv and this just hammered me back thinkin i cant trust my radio gear anymore, any thoughts
thanks

ill see if i can get the video off the card from my gopro, it was buggered FACK now i need to use my old gopro lol

Was the AR8000 flashing indicating that you lost Tx signal? Since you had the AR8000 did you set it up for preset failsafe? If so, the Naza should have just landed on LOS. One last question how do you have your receiver and satellite mounted on your F450? Could you show us a picture? Thanks.

Yessir, ill post a pic tomorrow. The battery was ejected on impact so no idea about flashing rx. Wookong is the controller, my ar8000 was setup for failsafe where upon it goes to mid stick and the wkm goes into return home... My first loss kn a quad i may have screwed it all up when i realized i was at a total loss of control and csc off the motors for a try, i figured id rather drop it then watch it fly off into the sunset.

Carnage.... The rx is bottom mounted aswell as the sat as u can see, i "thought" them being on the bottom wood be good considering it is normally up in the air

The active antenna on the sat should hang past the carbon fiber to prevent reflection, actually. Are you running the telemetry? I don't use Spectrum except for my heli's, but I know there is a certain sequence to bind that makes it all work together. It's a pretty recient post, too.

that seems weird....

to bind failsafe, you wanted to put the bind plug into the rx, power it up, take the bind plug out, it should flash still, but different, that lets you set all the channels failsafe. in particular, you want the throttle above 10%, i use 40% and you want the Atti, GPS,man swith to hit failsafe. Mines gone into it alot playing with spektrum and fpv. can't imagine not having it programed

Im thinkin of grabbing a uhf setup... What is workin good with dx8? Dragon link i saw one scheffer or sometging looked good v6 pro...

Had a very close one today, same problem. WKM with AR8000 / DX8 on a Gaui 500x, was about 60 feet up and then suddenly lost communication, quad just hung there for a while then started to descend and drift slowly. Was really lucky because I had time to climb onto conservatory roof and grab hold of it before it smashed into the house!
I could see that the LED was still on on the receiver, everything unresponsive until both the WKM and the DX8 were power cycled. Very weird, I got lucky this time but has really made me nervous about trustung the DX8/WKM in future, would hate to have a fly away or worse.

Thats my concern now, considering ill be putting my naza back in the 450 when my AD-6 HL arrives, id not like to lose it with my dslr under it....

Hate seeing it damaged like that, I drilled my 550 Friday but it was my fault. Was showing it off at the field doing loops, I'm thinking it was too low on battery voltage and couldn't get the thrust to complete the loop, but could have been misjudged altitude.

I rebuilt it at work yesterday, made the right decision and got 4 extra arms at time of purchase. My hero2 is toast that was the only piss off really, and i cant get the video off the card either.... Ill b back on the original hero for a bit

I'll bet the placement of the rx and sat had something to do with this.

mutley, got any pictures of your setup

yes dragon link = good, but has been slow to get ahead of schedule. i heard there gonna open sales back up and ship within 24 hours from here on out, we'll see.

There is ezuhf by immersionRC, chainlink at dpcav, sherrer you refered to all over. The dragon link code is written by the same guy doing scherrer, but smaller more modern electronic package. not so military strength.

You can get a clean 2200 feet out of the system you got there now, just gotta move that sat up onto an arm pointing the little wires up and down

I put a tslrs rx in it, ill do my best to figure out antenna layout as they are both about 16 inches long, id use my spektrum gear again and i will be when i finish my AD-6 which is the tslrs's home but i just read allover that spektrum doesnt do well with objects blocking line of sight, ill give this ago and see whats what before i put 4000 bux in the air for some photography lol. For clarification tho, i should have my spektrum SAT in a vertical fashion on an arm? sounds good

like this

front is best, that way any turning around you get to come back to you is better than going away, but i'm talking a couple thousand feet. it does line of sight better than my 5.8 video gear, but out of range is out of range. i want miles

this is all spektrum ar8000 and jr 11x
2:30 was failsafe in 20-30mph wind..... 1500-1700 feet
the begining and 2:50 were lvc, crap battery packs couldnt take the heat
3:37 is 2200 feet and no nothing, just scared
9:35 was 2000 feet
11:04 was failsafe, 2200 feet
12:37 failsafe, forget but was closer
when i ran mine all the same horizontal angle, the dam thing was kicking up my osd setup screen close in, that meant it was glitching

I have an FrSky 2.4GHz system with 2 way telemetry due to arrive any day for my F450. Quite a few of my FPV flyer friends are using them here in Australia. The receiver sends Telemetry data back to your TX module which beeps when your RX signal is getting low. Range is reported to be about twice that of the Spektrum system with most getting up to 1.5 kms before failsafe kicks in (compared to about 700 meters on the Spektrum). Its nice to get advanced warning that your'e approaching the edge of your range. I'll report on how well it works once it arrives and I have it installed

I also have a 'RangeLink' LRS system for my fixed wing FPV but the antennas are too big for the F450 hence the need for the FrSky 2.4GHz Telemetry alternative ('RangeLink' is a new model LRS direct from the original designer of 'ChainLink'. The original 'Chainlink' was sold through BEVRC but has since been replaced with the newer 'ChainLink Dare' which is from a different supplier. The original 'ChainLink' system was a good unit and the newer 'RangeLink' system also appears to well received but reports from users on BEVRC's new 'ChainLink Dare' are not as good).
