Will it fly? and help me if it does.

OK so my build is completed, now I need some advice for the maiden flight. Can I assume that with the first flight in attitude mode the hexa will not take off until I am past half throttle? Based on the fact that half throttle is the hover point or will this depend on total takeoff weight/thrust available. I just want some idea of what to expect. Any advice on gain settings/adjustment, I have them all at default for now, should I have other setting dialled in on my spare TX 3 position switch ready to switch to increase or decrease gain from default.View attachment 1679
Pulso U28s, 30amp ESC, Hyperion 5000mah 4s, 13 6.5e APC props, DJI WKM, AV200 360 mount, Droidworx AD6 360 frame Not sure of total all up weight yet but it feels heavy! will it fly? Haha.

Any advice on gain settings/adjustment, I have them all at default for now

Every MR with the WKM is different.. there does not seem to be standard settings for any config as there is so many different configs.. as the manual says.. bit at a time!

Good Luck

Iceman you should be safe with 100 % on all values so just keep it at default.

WKM calculates its one take throttle no matter how much payload you have on or taken off for the next flight. Just bring the throttle stick up to mid stick position and give it a little more. If you have the feeling its going to tilt and you dont feel comfortable take the throttle down again. If you have a good feeling maneuver slightly against the tilt and give it a noch more throttle once its in the air it will be stable. It could be that it takes off nicely without any tilt effect but you never know !

Best would be to test the bird if it really does what it is supposed to do by having someone holding it about his or hers head and you giving it throttle and trying out the stick commandos and if it responds correctly. You can also take of like this by telling the person to let it go once it wants to take off. But be completely sure what you are doing if you try this that you don't bring the person in any danger.

Maybe only fly with one lipo at the beginning if you can mount it in a way that your copter is still balanced.

And dont rely on the voltage control from WKM, take the bird down after a couple minutes and check it over props are okay not to much heat on any components and measure the voltage whats actually going on with you lipo !

Finding the right gain settings if of your concerning afterwards. I consider it safer to start with the default values than to high or to low gain settings.

Hi Boriss, Thank for taking the time to respond, that’s great advice. I fly a 400 size 3D heli but only circuits, no stunts and I guess I just wanted to know what to expect just before liftoff and if it needs instant correction or stick input like a normal heli as it take to the air. I did get it light on its skids and checked pitch and roll and they all respond and go in expected direction, if the wind stays light and it’s dry tomorrow I will take it out and get it off the ground. I need to check the line loss to set the cut off/safety for the lipo so ill take multimeter to check lipos before, during and after the flight.

Iceman if you fly helis you have nothing to worry about you will know what to do now worries !!!!. Just let it take of in attitude mode no problem. Manual should also be no problem for you just try it out a little later when you are confident everything is working !

Boris thanks for the vote of confidence. Looking at this thing it defies all laws of aerodynamics and feels like a brick! But I know they fly! I've seen the videos. I'm used to flying fixed wing (Gliders) and heli that anyone would recognize as something that should fly but this hexa looks like the inside workings of a washing machine, actually they fly as well, I've seen it on TV

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
iceman, from what i understand, the flybarless heli's are more like the multi-rotors are in that they don't just sit in ground effect very well waiting for you to decide what to do next. some multi's will let you get away with it but at some point you have to just pop the throttle a bit and get it a few feet off the ground and THEN you can look at it for a second and decide what to do next.
good luck with it.

Maiden flight yesterday, only did it on one set of batteries but it went really well, no problems but will need a bit of dialing in. So far very happy!
