When good flights go bad

It was bound to happen...

Today I had my first crash. My best guess is that a prop exploded in midair and then gravity decided to slap my poor little Gaui.

Hmm.. Wonder why you can't get the video streaming. Can you view other videos on vimeo?

Damage to my 500x was minimal. 2 props (I'll trash the remaining 2 as well) and my brand new landing gear that I really liked. Funny thing it was the first flight with a GoPro on board. Nice to have my first crash on video.

that's weird how you don't even hear a real change, just leans over you tried to correct and it's in the dirt.

Make sure you didn't ding the prop adapters and the bearings in the motors. The gopro footage was excellent, love that tree house, looks like disneyland

A little more about the crash.

The night before I made some changes to the Gaui which included setting up the Naza for 4S batteries and installing a GoPro mount to the landing gear. AUW was 1650 grams with the GoPro on board (in its hard case) and a 6200 mah 4S quadrocopter battery. Leading up to the changes I have had around 30+ flights with no issues, not even a hard landing however these flights were with the Gaui totally stock (except for various landing gears) and using a 4000mah 2S battery.

My thoughts are that with my repeated removal and replacement of the props and probably me tightening them down too hard finally caused one of them to break in midair. Their stress levels must have been higher due to the added weight I was carrying and moving to the 4S battery. All the pieces that broke off in the crash were found within a couple feet of the crash site except for 1 half of the front right prop (motor 1). The prop half has never been found and I looked all over the place.

I'm glad I caught it on video!

@kloner - Yes, the makers of the tree house actually do theming for Disney. You can find there stuff at http://www.danielswoodland.com

i have my props on a good amount, since i lost a prop nut within the first week when i was out flying. but im flying a dji f450 with the stock motors and props. just using 6mmx1.0 nuts and the locking washers to keep them on, and i get next to no loosening of the nuts during flight. i recently swapped my heli 500 landing gear for a set of pool noodles to get it high enough for the go pro.
