Mikrokopter What justifies the price tag?

I think that the MK controller price is definitely not justifiable with the advent of Ardupilot etc

Also not loving the advertising hype:

"Heavy lift
55cm class
Bigger props than you have
all carbon"

Ardupilot has actually got more waypoint capability than the extreme top end pro multis.

Marketing hype is meaningless, point's that would normally be a downer can be made into a 'defining feature'.

What do you think the profit margin on the $4000 Quadro XL is? If I look at the Equipment you've got an allum frame, a MK Controller, 4 super expensive motors, that special distribution board "MK flex lander skids" etc... can't be more then 1k worth of parts...

What justifies it?

Sorry for sounding skeptical, I really can't afford 4k though.

Well they have developed their own system, along the way there will have been some level of testing and experimentation to get to what they feel is of the quality they want. You could go out and build your own after a bit of research and save a bit of money but if you were going to build it with a view to sell it then to make any sort of business sense you would need to charge for all the time you took in all aspects of putting your system together. Truth is that will end up being a lot of time and at the end of that you want a profit margin that will cover all your business expenses that range from offices, telephone, electricity, tools, vehicle, accounting, legal, stationary, consumables, parts etc etc etc. After all your business expenses are accounted for you will then be wanting to earn a living so that has to be added in.

I can build my own multis to do what I need for a fraction of what I would pay someone else to do for it but in reality the amount of time I have put in means the true cost of my builds are probably not too different from those building to make a living.

Bottom line, your own time is not free if you are hoping to earn a living.

Do not underestimate how long they take to setup, our mikrokopter stabilized straight out of the box. The Ardupilot took a lot of adjustment to get it stable, and as Stacky says time is Money.
