Video-Build/How-To-Tutorial: DJI Flame Wheel F550 Feat. Wookong M + NAZA

PitchBitchTV Episode #2 has been just released!

It features a detailed presentation of DJI's Flame Wheel F550 Hexacopter and the Wookong M and NAZA Multi-Rotors controllers. Furthermore the Video contains a complete video-tutorial how to build the F550 and how to set up the F550 with the Wookong M and NAZA controllers (plus Spektrum AR8000 signal lost RTH failsafe programming)!

PitchBitch also presents Quadframe's 155mm landing gear solution + 2-axis GoPro Gimbal + eyefly's GoPro FPV "Snap" Protection case + protection lense on the F550, which are a nice solution for hobby aerial-filmers.

The episode concludes with the Maiden flight of DJI's F550 + Wookong M, filmed with 3 cameras and on-board with the Quadframe Hobby-Gimbal. The episode is a hefty 46 mins long, and there are VIMEO and youtube versions available. You can download the episode @ vimeo (1.3 gb HD).

Enjoy!

Awesome video mate, it'll be a great help when I build my F550 tomorrow :) I do have a question about the WKM software setup though; At 20:42 when you show the compass it is slightly offset towards the back of the frame but in the software the setup at 29:00 the compass X value is set to 2cm, should that not be -2cm instead or am I mistaken? TIA.

You are right! I've recorded that part of the software configuration after I re-positioned the Compass towards the front. That's why the value is +2 in my software setup. The example pic that is shown contains the numbers that I entered for the maiden flight. I re-positioned the compass, because I experienced some magnetic interferences with another LiPo pack. Most people don't realise that the lipo pack is usually reason #1 for the so called TBE (Toilet Bowl/Whirlpool Effect), which can cause the WKM to fly circles on auto-pilot. If you want to check your setup for electro magnetic interferences that may disturb the compass, take an old-school compass, place it on the lipo pack and/or close to the compass/gps unit and run motors to the max.

If you plan on placing the wookong at the same position where I put it for the maiden flight, it's likely your X value should be negative (if your CG is at center). So you got that right.

Thanks for two great videos. The only thing that gives me a bit problems is the wiring. I have a Futaba R6208SB receiver and have connected the 5 first ports to the 5 first ports on my naza.

How about the others, shall I just continue and connect them too?

Since I am having a
T8FG super transmitter with S-bus some told me, that the receiver will receive power from Naza. Is that through any of the cords or do I have to wire the BB port on the receiver to the Naza.

Best regards,
Claus.

Thanks for the advise Alex, I didn’t know that the LiPo could be a source of EMI. That might explain why I had suffered from the TBE on my F450!
