Two Flyaways in a row!!!!!!!!

Rik, here's the pdf manual for your 350...http://www.bladehelis.com/ProdInfo/Files/BLH7800_Manual_EN.pdf the binding process is on page 8 and it's an involved process on this one.
Not only are you binding your transmitter with the controller, you're calibrating your sticks and setting your gps functions. Don't rely on a guy behind a counter to know any more about these than what he's seen on a utube video or read in the manual (ever been to home depot and ask a 17 year old about plumbing?).
When you hit the return to home did you hold the switch like it says to on page 14?
I was like you 3 years ago, the only remote control I used was the tv, but you get schooled a bit about these gizmos and you find they're quite fun!

After reading all the tread and been a owner of a hobby shop for the last 9 years I completely agree with this post. It looks that the fail safe function hasn't been setup yet. Binding only will only do one part of the equation, in any part it has been told that fail safe or switches has been setup.

Update

After I took the quad and DX6i controller back to the hobby shop last week for them to give it (them) a "once-over" I stopped by yesterday and talked with the owner, who is very knowledgable on the subject products and RC. He suggested since both quads did a "flyaway", he wanted Horizon Hobbies to to the detailed checking of the Blade 350QX2 and the DX6i controller. If there are any flyways, it will be their responsibility.

So… that's where things stand. I don't expect any results for at least several weeks.

Hi,
I have the Blade 350QX, (first generation) I am also new at Quad but experienced at RC airplanes.
I suggest a range check on radio, with the quad on ground but not with motor running, watch the light, switch between the smart mode and stable mode to watch light turn green/blue. what SHOULD happen if you turn your radio off or go out of range, the light should blink rapid RED (return home mode).

when I flew my quad and I flip the return home switch, it goes up higher then comes back directly over the home position (where I started motors) and then it descends and lands.

I am not suggesting you do this but I did test this later in flight, with a solid GPS lock the flew up about 20ft, and the turn the radio off, it goes to return home mode and it landed itself. Keep this in mind if it ever starts to fly away on you , last hope is to turn off the radio it should come home.

are you getting a solid light? (GPS lock) doe it stay solid?

My issues, here at home in NY it has a slow drift, in the remote update NY Catskills mountains I couldn't get a GPS lock, at Joe Nall in South Carolina , it locked in solid and did not drift.
so I am going to try re calibrating mine next.

Hi Firefly!
Without flying the Blade in all modes, I have checked the lights and what they are supposed to show for each mode. Everything OK. On each flight, I always use either the Return Home switch on my DX6i controller, or turn off the controller. Each time, the quad will land at least three to 5 ft. from takeoff position.

I make sure the Green light is solid before and during flight.

1 fly-a-way is a fluke! 2 fly-a-ways with the same controller under same conditions but with different quads (same make), leaves me to believe the problem is in the controller. That's why my second quad is with Horizon HQ in Illinois, along with my DX6i controller.

Thanks for your comments.

UPDATE!!! (although rather late):
Long story short. Was contacted on phone by a "biggie" at Horizon, Illinois. He said a new 350QX2 RTF has been shipped to me. ALSO… a brand new DX6i radio! He asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I said "Ya. you can 'make me whole' by reimbursing me the total cost $450+ of the second 350QX2 I had to purchase to replace the original 'fly-a-way'". A short time later, he got back on the phone and said, "OK Rick, we will initiate a full credit to your account."

Soooo …. I'm quite happy, Don't ya think?
Have a great Holiday!
