This seems like the perfect place to introduce myself!

Hi everyone, greetings from London UK (and also Wimborne and also Cambridge).
Good to see lots of interesting stuff going on here!

I hope to learn lots from you all and perhaps can contribute myself a little further down the line.

Together with a friend at uni I have started a business where I will be flying multi-rotors with a camera attached.

Its still very early days at the moment but we have ordered and paid a deposit on a Droidworx Skyjib 8 with a Cinestar Gimbal and Radian.

It should arrive next month and we will be straight in to practicing and learning prior to taking our BNUC-s and all the other necessaries for operating commercially in the UK.

We are both third year students at Ravensbourne studying Production, I previously did two years of Broadcast Operations and Harry studied Digital Film Production.
So you can see we are coming at this from the perspective of film and television and are still very new to anything RC or flying related, but we are very keen to learn!

We have yet to publicise the business in any way but we have a twitter account. @rotorvisualsltd where we will be posting occasionally, and of course on here!

Its very encouraging to see the work thats going on with these and as Im sure you know the future looks very exciting for all things multi-rotor!

One question (of many I would anticipate). Does anyone know of any books or other resources that would help me learn the basics of all things RF? I know this is a big area but I think its something I should be getting on with learning before I start trying anything ambitious.

Anyway I look forward to speaking with you all and having some progress for you to see soon!

Thanks, Jack.

Hey guys good to see some new faces.
My best piece of advice to yourselves is to get a smaller quad to practice and refine your skills . A few hundred pounds on a flamewheel or similar will seem small fry if you have a heavy landing with the big bird.
Looking forward to hearing your progress though & good luck.

Hi ZAxis thanks for the reply,

Buying a smaller machine for practicing and honing our operational skills such as a checklist for setting up and packing down etc is something that we have been looking at doing.
We have been putting in many hours on Phoenix Flight Sim so actually flying the thing shouldn't be too much of a shock but its all about remembering each step of what to do so we never get in a situation where human error puts anything/one at risk.

What would you recommend around the 3-400 price range? We will have the transmitters, charging equipment etc from the big kit so it would just be a craft and batteries that we would need I suppose. If it could fly a goPro that would be a bonus as I have seen some great shots using small rigs and it would certainly be another arrow in the quiver so to speak.
*Edit* Also, the more I could tinker with it and learn about the workings the better! Though we have bought an RTF kit to get the business started in time I would like to be able to repair everything myself and learning the workings of a smaller model would be a great way to start.

Thanks very much!

PS: Loved your work on 4by3. Im an avid downhill mountain biker myself so was really jealous of the shooting and riding haha! Will have to get up to LLangynog to have a look at some point. It was actually Dedicam shooting at Champery DH world cup a couple of years ago that first spared my interest in Multirotors.

Hey there.
I was going to say you already have the transmitter so it would just be the case of another receiver and setup a new model. I would defiantly suggest a F450 Flamewheel/Naza kit and build it yourself as they are around that kind of price range and will carry a GoPro no probs and are much more fun to fly without the constant thought of how much ££ you have up in the air with your bigger craft.
Thanks for the feedback on my work, Yeah the 4 by 3 was a good shoot and we had the only few days without wind there has ever been there! Some big stuff happening down there at the moment so another shoot is on the cards soon, Funny it was the Dedicam setup at Champery that got me into it as well! Drop me a message if your coming up this way soon, bring your bike and your copter!
