The supposed new FAA sUAS reg... WHEN???

Ok so a few months ago there was that big announcement that the FAA was going to make it slightly easier to become certified to fly AV. Ground school, a test and paying for a permit (or something like that)

SO.. when is this coming to be? I have heard nothing more about it and I'm kind of stuck. I have WAY too much money invested to just sit here and wait. I still get some work, but I know I'm not getting more because I'm not advertising as exempt.

Do do I hire a PPL guy and train him/her as a pilot or is this new plan going to happen soon?

I am really sick of the lack of information and lack of timeframe.
This is really frustrating!

Should be closing soon, but there is nothing that states if it is approved it will most likely go into effect "insert date"
I mean a 6 month window would be ok. I just need to know if this is 2 - 3 years from now where it won't even matter because everyone that is getting exempt now will already hold the main focus of the industry or if this might happen in the next 9 - 12 months!?

I hear ya. The lack of definitive info must be nerve wracking for you guys holding out on full blown advertising. I feel for you.

Perhaps try to reach out to Brendan Shulman? He seems to be someone with his finger on the pulse of where the laws/regs are headed.

He seems to keep a fairly consistent dialoge going on his Facebook page.

Open comment period closes April 24. Last I heard they haven't even been able to sort through the last comment period and might being hiring an outside firm to categorize comments.

Many feel this process will not be formalized for an year to two depending on who you listen to. I'll try to gather some of the info I found on Twitter from fairly reliable sources. I too have been trying to figure out what to do, four years of planning on my part is getting a little old and expensive. I feel your pain Sleepy...

Too much pressure from too many political directions for this one to languish very long. I've been wrong before but I'd be surprised if this goes any longer than the first anniversary date of the NPRM announcement. We also have the political side where sitting administrations will want to take full credit for the accomplishment. The associated political party will want to use that for presidential campaign purposes. No, I don't think it will be long.

This is all speculation here, but witnessing the way the FAA works it's hard to imagen it will be done by this time next year. Plus even though people want it done quick, they are also super safety oriented and wouldnt want to be liable for some sort of preventable accident

When I spoke to the UAS office last week it sounded like they couldn't wait for the final rule. They are slammed with petitions...
