Hi guys....well as the title say's, the Evo has arrived on the bench. So far so good, the S800 comes nicely packaged with 2 separate boxes inside one for the main frame and arms, the containing the retracts, isolation plates and battery mount. Shame it didn't make and entrance with an shiny Alloy case like the first one...but I guess they hadn't invented the retracts for "zenmuse" then??? Arms are nice and stiff, tick....Isolation dampers, tick...A little more room on the centre plate for all the addon's, tick...Folding props...eerrmm have to wait and see?? Higher Kv motors with what seems to be good venting fans top and bottom of the motors inc venting of the underside of the arms for the esc's, tick!! All in all she seems to have all the right credentials and im sure she weighs more than the original but that's not a real problem flight time wise based on the V1. Sooo, I'm going to finish an Xm6 i'm got on the bench and then hopefully jump onto the Evo later this evening and if I really pull my finger out and the weather is playing ball then I my maiden her tomorrow. Lets just hope this time DJI has really got it right...they MUST DO!! I'm having one delivered next week, I still have to buy batteries for it.
What batteries are you using and what would you recommend, ie. 25C, 35C? I know I need a total of about 10000mAh and some people recommend 2 x 5000 - what's your opinion?
I live in France and there seems to be a general shortage of batteries just at the moment!

I fly with 2x 6000 nano-techs.
Well...I know this is a new machine but I'm hoping this will have great potential. I personally build these machine for a rather large uk leading multi rotor company and so I get to build all of the most up to date machine and use the latest equipment out there....which is a great place to be. I was hoping to get on the Evo last night but got a bit carried way on my own DW XM X4 which raised a couple of issues on its maiden the other day.
As the Evo, I think it has all the right bits to make its mark on the professional scene and although it not my own I will do my best to put it through its paces and report back step by step.
As for this first Evo we'll be keeping it simple with a wkm and a Zen for a gh2 running on probably 6s 5000 25c which worked OK in our uk climate for flight times easily exceeding 12 minutes...which in the professional world is pretty good.
My first S800 did show all the well talked about trade marks which made the machine so unpopular for many users at a pro level and Im hoping to see this as a DJI beta version for good things in the future. There will be haters out there and I do feel your frustration day to day..but I'm sure they have an invested interest in producing a very capable machine for the higher level operators...they maybe quiet on the forums and only post when they have something new but I feel/ hope they only mean good and their efforts will come good with new products that are in the pipeline and including the new Evo. I'll not be biased on my report of the build and flight testing as I have my own personal favourites.
Sorry for any typing errors but I'm on my mobile travelling to Somerset and multitasking has never been my strong point.

Thanks for your plans to document your experiences with the EVO build and flight testing (and thanks for the pics). We'll be interested in your thoughts regarding what's good, bad, or unchanged. This is an exciting time for interested parties, even those whose prior experiences with DJI have been, well, mixed.
BTW, were the telltales on the prop screws there from the factory? I imagine they got some feedback on this from beta testers.

Topflight...I'm afraid I've not had chance to do anymore with her as I've been busy with some shoots and finishing off a couple of xm6's but all being well tomorrow is a quieter day so I'll be getting a bit done on her. To be honest I'm looking forward to getting her airborne...so I'll update as soon as I have any news...
Hey eyeball, any update on the EVO by chance? Those on waiting lists are curious to get any firsthand info...

I heard a rumor from a reliable source (DJI distributor) that there was quality control issues with the new EVO and production has been temporarily halted. Hopefully someone with more information can jump in and put in their input.

Thanks for the heads up. If DJI was better at communication with their customers we wouldn't have to speculate. If DJI actually had a great US customer service department and PR division they would really dominate the multirotor market in the US.
What DJI needs is Tom Smykowski from the movie "office space" because he is a people person in his words he deals with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to.
