Tarot T18 Builds

Hello All!

This may be my first post on this forum, but its not my first rodeo around MR's. I'm building a new system, and have yet to find many people who have used the Tarot T18 frame.

I've ordered most of the parts, but I will list my current planned setup below, with images to follow.

My intended use for this copter is one of extreme varying weights. It will be used to fly a Red Epic about 2x/month for a friend, and the rest will be used for NDVI and thermal Imagery for oil and agricultural use.

Here is the setup I plan to use. Please feel free to comment on my build.

Build specs:
Tarot T18
Tarot 5008 340kV Motors
Foxtech 1855 supreme light C/F propellers
Foxtech 6s 22000 mAh Batteries (normally use quadrocopters 6s 10,000 mAh 2x, since I live near them, but the fox tech batteries peaked my interest, thought I would take a look)
Mikrokopter Double Quadra V3 - Cool V3.5
Mikrokopter Flight-Ctrl V2.5 ME
Graupner HoTT MX-12
Gimbal Setup: Movi/Red Combo from previous build
eBay brand gimbal/GoPro/NDVI/FLIR imager from previous build


Video Transmission : Nyrius Aries Pro with Circular Polarized antenna
Custom built viewing station with 20" HD monitor


****I'm still looking for a good case to transport everything in. I'm at the point now where I might just laser it out at the shop****

Hi ValticusAerial;
I to am working on a T18 and have been looking for others who are building or have in operation a T18.
I hope to make mine to take aerial photos of the area around where i live and for SAR(search and resque but that wont be for a while as I am just getting into the very adictive hobby.

I have decided to motor in the 5000 range that will take a 18 inch prop but make it in to a pusher in attemp to make it as efficent as possable.
How far have you gotten on your build?

I'm using the T18 Platform as well. I'm coming into some problems with the 5008's. I have isolated the problem to the motors. The three motors I have tested pulsate to the ESC beep once every +/-3 sec. I think it might be the bearings. I'm looking into how to get to the bearings for maintenance. Any insight would be nice.

Hi Doc,
It would take a pretty good hit on the motors for the bearings to seize like you're describing. Could it be your connections to the esc's?
But if you're dead set on taking apart your motors, you'll have to remove the small c-clip on the bottom of the motor shaft then you can pull the can apart. Some bearings drop right out, others need a little persuasion. Bartman was selling a tool that made installing the bearings easy (it's not that hard regardless).
I would remove the c-clip while the motor is inside a baggy or something because they are tiny and like to get lost easily.

I have bypassed the ESC with motor tester that is in the Graupner charger. The motors still don't work. I appreciate the insight on the motors.

I've had my eye on the T18 for quite a while myself. If you guys could continue this as a build thread it would be great for myself and others interested in this frame.

I've been flying the T810 hex for a couple of years now and am super pleased with it. It uses the same folding mechanics so tried and proven imo.
