suas test sites

I guess I'm at a loss here. What exactly is this about? I'm just a modeler, nothing more. What exactly does all this imply?

Seems to me that now the FAA is trying desperately to limit my modeling hobby.

What exactly constitutes a sUAV? Seems to me that if my 530mm Hexa falls into this category then anything that fly's and is not physically tethered also falls into this category, even a mini park flyer rc glider.

My Hexa is for MY enjoyment, solely. It's intent is not for personal gain, used to spy on others, or a weapons delivery platform.

If the US government is looking at my Hexa as a threat to the safety to others then the answer does not lie with designating an 'allowed only' zone, but simply allowing the state and local governments to do their job and give me a ticket for flying in public area's such as events, or crowded areas.

I'm sorry to admit that there is a certain percentage of the hobby population that abuses and ultimately hurts the hobby. Just as there is a certain percentage of drivers that abuse and threaten the public on the roads. These people are dealt with by the state and local level, not the federal level.

If this is the FAA's intent, then they have sorely missed the mark, and I pray I am wrong.

There is so much wrong with this country as it is, do we really need this level of involvement at the federal level? Would not the proposed money be better used in correcting other serious issues?

Perhaps I'm missing the mark here. If this is about industry, then it seems to me it's there responsibility to find a suitable site to test out their product, not my responsibility to supply them thru taxes to buy land for them to test their product on.
Just because the FAA is responsible for the airways in this country, does this mean they are going to impose a tax on the air I breathe?

On the hobby level, it is my responsibility to behave in a responsible manner.
Part of the responsibility is to educate myself, and I must admit that I'm missing the mark in some level here, so once again, what is this all about?

Just got t love the internet.

A quick search brought all this to light for me.

http://www.astm.org/Standards/F2851.htm

So, they recognise my right to enjoy my hobby,,,,, thank you so very much!

However,,,

The question still stands,,,, why am I suppose to supply tax dollars for private industry to test out their product? They want to do this, let them buy the land! Hell, let them buy Bikini island, fly over the ocean thousands of miles and return!

Talk about budget cutting is fine, this is a prime example of something that can be slashed!

Don't get me wrong here, I love what the AMA has done for this hobby. Back in my plank days, I was a member for over 20 years. I still follow, somewhat what they are doing. I'll admit that lately they seem to be more about themselves, turning more into a big industry.

For me, flying fpv in a small controlled 'box' is not what fpv is about. However, that is what BLM land is ideal for.
Fortunately, I live in a state that has tons of this land, not to mention National Forests.

If the FAA and the AMA start stepping on my ability to fly in these area's then I have a problem.

What I have a problem with now is as I stated above, buying land with my tax dollars for industry to test their products on. I can guarantee you that if industry is involved, we will be banned from that land.
As far as the government argument that it will create more jobs, I call BS! Not enough to make a damn bit of difference. Think of the movie Armageddon, " American components, Russian components,,, all made in Taiwan!"

As I understand it, sUAV means a tail number and an acft capable of international flight. Under that definition land restriction will be imposed.
Not with my tax dollars, damn it!

Perhaps I'm still missing something here?

that's why i'm throwing my money and time to the "video pilots association" instead of the ama. They will have our best interests in mind.......gonna take alot of work but what doesn't. Were working on getting it all live and going online soon
