Standard Hex versus Y hex?

Hi,

I'm wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are of these two different designs? Seems like a Y configuration puts half the props always in the wash of the others, but reduces the weight of the frame? Are there other differences? Is the prop wash thing a non-issue?

The weight reduction is minor, you only lose the weight of the 3 arms. The Y6 is less efficient, so shorter flight times by roughly 15%. The advantages are orientation is a bit easier and the Y6 handles the wind better.

Greater flight times with the flat Hexa. It's feels (at least my last one) more floaty than my Y6. You may need to do a little experimenting with your Y6 to get the right control and maximize you flight time. Some say bigger props on top vs bottom or higher pitched props on bottom etc. I use the exact same props top and bottom. I will experiment to see if I can increase my flight times.
