Looks interesting - same size sensor as Nikon V1 but (as usual for Sony) better video specs. Only thing that irritates me is the idiotic marketing use of the "one inch sensor" description. Obviously it's not that size - actually 13.2x8.8mm - bigger than a regular pocket camera but much smaller than Nex5/7.
I have one in my hands right now, just seeing what its like. First impression is that its a very nicely made little camera, it feels "german" if that makes any sense. Nothing flimsy about it and all the control buttons etc have a very nice solid feel to their movements. The first couple of shots out of it are pretty good. I was of the understanding it had a built in intervalometer which would have made it very useful but unfortunately it only does 3 to 5 shots quickly after a 10 second delay. As far as a point and shoot goes my first impression is that its a very good one. The other complaint I would have is that its widest angle is effectively 28mm. 24mm and the intervalometer built in would have made it a very good buy for its price and weight with respect to what we do. It has a very nice display for keeping both horizontal and vertical level and the lens ring has a number of functions depending on how you shoot. Lots of nice little features, it is a nice little camera.
If anyone wants to see some sample video or jpegs I can knock some out. They wont be aerial samples, I have to return the camera tomorrow.

Bummer, no interval shooting and I assume there is no IR receiver to shoot wirless like the NEX5n, or NEX7 which I currently own, yet I am a little nervous to fly with it due to its cost.
I had a 5n, yet suffered a major crash, camera total loss.
The RX100 looked so good to me on paper, very small, excellent build, built in IS, very small 1080P 60F, etc.

I've been waiting for this one to come out - my existing LX3 has developed a focusing issue after 10,000 AP shots.
I know I have used the 24mm a heap but I have also zoomed-in slightly before taking off as the 24mm has made things a bit distant at times... so I will adapt to just use the 28mm. Stacky also did a quick 2 minute 1080p 223Mb video and emailed to me. It looked fantastic but again, the extra fov of 24 vs 28 (76 vs 84 degrees) was noticeable but the narrower looked very natural and was stunningly clear.
I need another camera and while I have looked at the new Canon and the LX7, I need a camera better than 12mpix. When Stacky sents me two stills of his back yard - a 10Mb frame from the RX100 and 13Mb frame from his Canon 600D. Blown / zoomed up to full size of a huge monitor, the RX100 shot was sharper.
I hope to have mine next week.

This thing really can be described as a “Pocket-Rocket”! Having owned many cameras, this is definitely the most versatile camera on a features/size ratio. I shoot a lot of video, and I am very impressed thus far with the tiny camera’s video capabilities. In particular, its ability to focus incredibly close really provides a nice “macro” look for video and stills. Check out another sample at http://www.squidoo.com/sony-rx100

Yeah, the lack of an intervalometer is a real bummer. I've got a Sony WX10 that I picked up as a cheap but half decent P&S with decent video, but the lack of intervalometer has slowed me down because now I need to rig up a servo to fire the trigger, which sucks. When I bought it, I was planning to decase it and rig up a digital relay to trigger the shutter, but I just haven't had the heart to take it apart yet.
But anyway, how is this thing stacking up to the Nex5? (aside from obvious lack of IR and intervalometer) On image quality.
One thing I liked about using P&S cameras is the possibility of 3D printing a "cocoon" to maybe protect it in a crash.

Stacky visited today (from 70 miles away) for a workshop session - bringing his RX100.
We did some video trial with the RX100 on my octo and quad and his hexa. I do like the 28mm fpv - it looks more natural than the 24mm of my LX3.
I did a servo-shutter setup in 15 minutes and flew some test-images at the end of the day. Shutter-priority 1/500, 1600ISO, repeat shot, AF with stabilizer off.
Every shot was perfectly in focus and looked sharp. Even when I left the shutter going click-click while climbing and pirouetting!
At full-size, the 1600ISO looked a bit grainy (as you would expect) - all 5472x3648 pixels! On a 22" screen, it was awesome!
Off shopping tomorrow!

Received my RX100 and I really love it. Video quality is very good, even a bit sharper as NEX5N.
Absolutely outstanding is image quality at ISO up to 200. Very good per pixel sharpness and indeed very, very close to 7D images.
This little masterpiece will escort me for a long time, I think.
For usage in my Hexa I will attach two micro servos for shutter and zoom.

Have you tried the HDMI out with ant converter yet?
I have a separate Sony 1/3 CCD connected to my downlink. With the HDMI socket underneath and near the 1/4 thread, It will be difficult (but not impossible). I have only sorted the shutter so far (Stacky had to go and wanted to take his camera with him) but I suspect I'll dable with the zoom control too.

I bought one last week, I didnt own a point and shoot and got sick of using my work cameras for personal life stuff. Its probably the most impressive point and shoot I have seen and Im delighted with it.
My only complaints are that it would have been nice to have a little bit more in the wide angle dept and also a built in intervalometer or remote shutter option would have made it ideal for my AP messing around.
The quality of footage I have got so far has been really nice and I just need to sort out the last mechanical issues with my gimbals to be able to make proper use of it.

I don't have a HDMI-Comp converter so I used the "spycam" system. I will need to change spycam lenses to give a less wide representation (or get a converter) as I was off-centre on a few photos.
I shot solo (without my camera operator) and wore "Eyetop" video glasses giving me a monitor for the sideways-look on the right eye.
All 190 photos were in perfectly in focus - stunningly good . 1/640 Shut-Priority, 200iso and "Continuous-shutter".
I had the focus set to Single-shot AF (AF-S) as I found the Cont-AF (AF-C) was "hunting" the whole time and not always in focus a good as AF-S. AF-Cont shoots once a second, AF-Single shoots 3 times a second in continuous-shooting mode.
Verdict from the first proper shoot. I love it

I ssume I would have to shoot at 125th sec. Shooting at ISO 125 on a sunny day exposure would be F16, the lens at WA only goes to F11, so a ND would be needed but not available yet.
Am I missing something?

I've just shot a test video at 1/250 200iso leaving aperture in auto. I turned stabilization off. Very dark and overcast and the diy mount needs work but I'm editing... and nothing happens quickly in 1080!
Stacky - nice and smooth. My mount really needs tweaking...
The RX100 in New Zealand is 50i, not 60i as we are PAL here. It isn't selectable

I had that set in MP4 1440 x 1080. MP4 mode only shoots at 30 frames/sec. Im on a Mac and havent found a decent AVCHD converter yet so havent tried the high frame rate. I havent set the shutter speed so its whatever the default is. One tip I got from a DOP was that shooting at higher shutter speeds can look unnatural and the hint of motion blur at the standard shutter speeds somehow fools our brains in to thinking its a natural look. Sorry i havent explained that well, it was a few months ago i got the quick explanation. Denny if he sees this might be able to clear that up.
I shot this with the RX100 stabilization at Active. I hadnt actually set it but that looks like it must have been the default. I had it set on A (movie) which is Aperture priority. To be honest I hadnt thought to mess with the manual settings myself so you have unearthed a whole pile of messing around for me to try.
