Just some flying around and practice shots. Taken with my extended F550 and nex5n camera. About half the pics I take are blurry, working on reducing vibrations.

Suggestions/tips appreciated.

Nice work! Be sure to balance your props. Also maybe try some type of gel under your Sony. Also familiarize yourself with photo editing software. I love Lightroom and Photomatix Pro.

Best,

Tom

Thanks for the tips. I have a prop balancer on the way.. Still trying to figure out a way to put some rubber dampeners inbewteen my frame and landing gear/gimbal too.. Need to find some good rubber grommets to put inbewteen the bolt and my upper frame, inbetween frame and landing gear, and inbetween bottom nut and landing gear. Think that would be better..

Yeah I don't mind flying high on a calm day, as long as my video link is good, I'll keep going lol. Your pics look good too, looks like a nice area.

What settings are you using on the camera? I know nothing about using drones (yet), but have been a working photographer for over 30 years. I do shoot action quite a bit and also use some pretty extreme lenses (600mm) and motion blur, both from subject movement and from camera shake is a very real issue. To minimize motion blur, I generally shoot using "aperture preferred" with wide open aperture, thus maximizing my shutter speed for the prevailing light. Since almost all the aerial photos I see on these forums are shot with wide angle lenses, depth of field isn't really a problem, so should be fine with wide open aperture. The shots you posted are very nice. Better exposure than many I see on these forums. What lens are you using? Can you give a more complete description of your platform. I am in the early stages and trying to determine what platform would be suitable for a NEX-7 with a Zeiss 24mm.
Thanks

Thanks it is a beautiful area. I'm struggling with vibration issues also. I'm using the AeroXcraft Landing Gear w/ GoPro2 Gimbal. I'm afraid that a lot of my vibration is coming from that gimbal. Still shorting it out.

Awesome, thanks for the camera tips! I was just shooting with everything on "Intelligent Auto" mode. I'll have to play around with aperture priority.

My hex:
F550 frame, extended arms and avroto motors.
11x7SlowFly props.
AeroXcraft landing gear and VTR125 gimbal.
2x5000mAh 4s packs
Nex-5n with hdmi/AVI converter going to a 2.4 vTx
Dragonlink RX

About 9min flights, here's an older pic of it, some things have changed. The ground station for the video is new, and works really good.

Looks like a pretty heavy lens. Do you have any trouble lifting all that stuff? Intelligent auto might work, but I generally don't really like the "auto" settings. The brain in the camera doesn't really know what you are attempting so will make decisions based on some algorithm that may or may not actually apply to your specific shooting conditions. What you want to do is maximize shutter speed in an attempt to eliminate visible motion blur. I shoot canon and don't really know Sony yet. I suppose that it might be possible in one or more of the Auto modes to tell the camera that you don't want the it to reduce the shutter speed below a certain point until the aperture is wide open and the ISO has reached some pre-set maximum. Probably easier to just set aperture wide open at the highest ISO that you feel will still give a level of noise that you can accept.

Thanks for the info on your platform. Are the large slow props supposed to reduce vibration?

Slow Fly props have wider blades, so they push more air. More lift.. Also, It's what I've found works best on my hex for stability, I tested a few different props on it.

Try moving your camera a little more towards the center if the craft. It's sitting right in the prop wash, so it's really easy to get blurred shots that way. Its the same as someone constantly pushing or tapping on the camera while you are in the air.

Is Slow Fly a brand? Did you start with a Kit or just a frame? Do Slow Fly props turn slower and if so do they take a special motor? (Sorry for all the questions, but you are basically flying what I am looking at (Sony NEX 7 probably with the Carl Zeiss 24mm).

Slow Fly is a type of prop, with wider blades. APC is the brand I use. Be sure to get good props as we have allot of money hanging from them, and 1 bad prop will take it all down.

Here's some more shots i got lately. The good ol towns of Madisonville and Manchac. If you're ever passing by and want some fresh shrimp, definately check out Manchac, they scoop them up fresh!

There is a video I just finished at the local location. This was done still flying my F550 with no gimbal and no post stabilization. I still have a ways to go, but I feel I am getting much better and should have my brushless gimbal setup and ready to go shortly.
