solder stations

I went and left my 400 watt solder gun at the river place so i need to get something to get me by. i wouldn't need that much power or the 1/4" tip for a second rig, i'd like to get one of them fancy solder iron made so you can turn it down and solder pcb's, turn it up and heat a 14 gauge wire to a deans, etc.

What do i want? which one is best? does any of em last longer than others? are any easier to get tips for? is there more than 1 to choose from?

did a bit of research and stepped up my solder station last month. ended up buying a digital weller from amazon. it seemed to get some great reviews and parts for it are readily available. I had a very basic setup prior to this and did not really realize what i was missing. So far I have only played around with it but it seems to work great. BTW pretty amazing videos from labor day you posted. Also, Im kind of thinking if I lived where you live, I would trade my rock crawler for full potential pre-runner. Enjoyed that video too.

your welcome to come on down anytime. Got a comfy couch

is that "the one" looks familliar, seen those around since i was a kid, used to work in car audio growing up for a bit.......... they also repaired radios. that blue color......

since i gotta get it local cause i need it today, grainger shows all kinds of these. theres the one you show, theres one they show missing the d in the numbr which is analog and theres a crazy grey one for $500 thats digital and 85 watts. i guess the question is whats the difference between digital and analog as far as life expectancy. obviously one has a digital number and a button, the other just a dial. Does one last longer or die sooner than the next. even my big 400 watt eats through tips at $40 a pop. what gets eaten on these, just the tips? are they cheap?

this is what i have now

something like this little station will make a perfect addition for a junkie like me, yea?

I've got the analog Weller. Works pretty well. I don't find it "eats" tips at all. I've done a TON of soldering with it. The only thing is that mine is a bit flaky, but I think it's because I got it on Ebay, and it looked like it fell off the truck. Sometimes the station seems to lose contact with the pencil. I have to whack the pencil on the table and then it starts heating up again. Not sure what the deal is, but I'm pretty sure it's just mine.

Kloner i started working on a RC project with my new station today. My sons RC crawler getting a new motor, and batteries on top of front axle. Station seems to work perfect. I am thinking you will like it. I am not going to throw away my old solder gun though, it is quite a bit more portable than this Weller.
