Smoke NOT GOOD

Guys help me out. I thought I was doing good. I had gotten a F450 from ebay and was supposed to be bind and fly. Being a newbie I thought I could handle this. Anyway it had a KK2.0 FC on it and I could not make it work. It would power up and I could make one motor at a time run. Anyway I got a NAZA lite. All I wanted first was to see if it would work. I just hooked the servo wires from the NAZA to my Rx and hooked up the motors. I figured that was all I needed to make the motors turn and do rotation check. When I hooked up the battery all the servo wires smoked. What the (you know what ) did I do wrong?????

Mr take no prisoners!
Yes a bit of info on how you actually connected it would be helpful.

In general if you have connected servo leads back to front it is unlikely any damage would be caused, if you connected the battery leads reversed it is likely that the smoke will be let out, smoke can not usually be returned to the device.....

Easy? You call that easy?

Doesn't sound good mate :upset:

my guess is you hooked up non OPTO esc's to the naza, naza has a built in power suply and requires the red wire be pulled from non opto esc so they don't all try powering the flight controller. naza in general is a tough sob,,,, most likely fried the bec in the esc's but there not even needed without using kk so you might have dodged a bullet. make sure the signal and ground wires are not melted into each other and shorting out and try again..... no matter what, any multi rotor instal should never have more than one bec powering it, in other words even with kk you should have had 3 of the 4 esc positive wires pulled out.... it's a small clip, heat shrink the metal end so it doesn't short out.

You , my friend, are a genius and my new best friend. Did not know there are 2 types of ESC's. Expensive ??? lesson, will know before too long. As long as the problem is found the solution is a whole lot closer. It did melt some wires together, got that fixed, had some spares, just hope no permanent damage. Will keep informed as I progress

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

IMHO - Both the MR frame documentation and the NAZA documentation needs to be read and fully understood before connecting the power and even more is needed if working with a custom or DIY kit such as specifics with respect to the ESCs.
Some FCs have no wiring inside, e.g., Xaircraft SuperX to allow bec power to get in from ESCs...... others such as the Naza require the use of OPT type ESCs or the removal of the power lead from each ESC before connecting..........

Also I have found that the MRs are complex systems and not for the faint of heart. BNF - Bind-N-Fly seems to suggest you are using a Park flyer type RC system........these tend to have very limited radio range which can become a problem for safe MR flying.

I would suggest you pull each motor, esc and wire to naza now and inspect everything closely and read the naza manual and obviously search for the none dji esc wiring. Dont assume since you fixed the visible damage thats it, could be all good or not.
Typically when a batt is crossed the solder melts and wires disconnect on main power dist board hookup, thats preferable to a lipo catching fire.
