Well...
The cat is nearly out of the bag....
UAS Operator Knowledge Test
Areas of testing:
1. Knowledge of sUAS Regulations
2. Airspace classifications.
3. Flight restrictions/ TFR
4. Obstacle avoidance maneuvers
5. Weather and Micrometeorology- effects on sUAS
6. Calculation of weights & balance
7. Emergency contingency scenario
8. Practical decision making & judgment
9. Airport operations & radio communications.

And the estimate costs to take the test & get licensed......
Their estimate is complete with testing, travel $3200.00
Still cheaper than PPL or CPL.
Sounding like the initial testing will be limited to just a couple of sites....

Alright..... waiting for more!!!

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Glad you picked up on this thread Andrew, every once in a while I advance a NewsRobot post to the General Discussions area if it looks especially newsworthy.

This will be an exciting development if it remains simple and effective in getting people out and flying.

Ok.. I need to correct the costs above....
I was incorrect... the cost above was 1000'sa yearly estimate.
The actual cost is on page 152....
Knowledge Test Fee: $150.00
TSA Positive ID Applicant Fee: $50.00
Small UAS Registration Fee: $5.00 per aircraft.
I finally had the time to READ everything ( 195 pages)...
Sorry for the misinformation.
Also... Testing at the current FAA approved private testing facilities..... EASY!!
The knowledge test breakdown listed above is spot on...

Unless I am mistaken, any new rules won't take effect until Jan 31, 2017.

FAA regulations are under title 14 of the CFR, which gets published Janurary 1 each year. Regulations cannot go into effect for, at minimum, 30 days from when they are published.
