Hello everyone,
My parts where late being delivered because of weather. I just
receivers my Naza-M, Zenmuse, Go-Pro Silver, power board, and the pancake motor
upgrade. I have the new KDE 4012-XF 400kv motors coming and some custom
ESC's should show up in about a week.
The pancake motor upgrade is cool, making the vehicle look
bigger. The only thing I'm not sold on is the color of the upgrade being army
green. I wish they were white.
I'm not sure if I want to try dying the parts, painting them, or
leaving them the stock colors. Also I don't know what color I want to paint the
main canopy. Let's hear some suggestions.

I decided to use the
upper plate as my flight control and bottom plate as power system.

Ended
up cutting another hole in both the upper and bottom frame to be able to route
the wiring the way I wanted. Turned out pretty good.

I'm just waiting on
motors, and ESC's to really finish everything up.

Here there Mangoats!

What ESC are you going to use with the KDE4012XF? Are they going to have SimonK on them? I'm thinking about slapping these bad boy motors on a heavy lift x8 with 16" props and a 6s lipo. Not sure if the latest version of Simon K works with this hi pole low kv motor. Let me know what ESC you use? Make sure you do a full power quick throttle up test to make sure there's no sync issues. Would love to hear the results. This motor is going to smoke a tiger U5 just need to find the right ESC. Thanks for your help!

Hello Skimmer,

So, I had a talk with Patrick from KDE Direct about his motors and what my plans were for this project. After a great conversation with him, he asked if I would be willing to test our some new ESC's they plan on releasing to the market.

Yes.............Please.....................

They are 55 amp ESC's just in basic heat shrink for testing, they have plans for some type of nice cover or something of that nature for release products.

I ordered my motors directly through him, and they shipped them and the ESC down to me. They should be here in a day or two.

Their shop in just one state over from where I'm at. So, support should not be an issue.

I look forward to testing these products out and getting some good information for everyone. I'll take lot's of pictures.

Thanks,
Chris

Hello Everyone,

I received a huge box today from KDE Direct with a hole bunch of goodies in it. The first thing I did was remove the 4012XF-400 motors and have a look. Very impressive............ the boxes and packaging of the motors is top notch. They come with everything needed to mount 2 different types of props, plus hardware and heat shrink, and also bullet connectors.

I spent a good deal of time just looking them over for all the little stuff, they are very high quality, and impressive. The motors fit in the Sky-Hero pancake motor mounts with no problems, even with some room to spare. When you look down into the winding, you can see all of the epoxy coatings for protection, plus the Kevlar string to help hold things in place. Seems like a nice extra step. If you hold the motor in your hand and spin it, it's very smooth. The cooling fan is nice and big, should run nice and cold. Looks like they went the extra mile with all the mounting holes for different applications.
Cannot wait to get them in the air for some testing.

The ESC's they sent for me to test go right along with the motors. I'm happy to give them a try to get KDE Direct some feedback. From my understanding, they are going to have some type of different outsides for the release product then what these pre-productions ESC's have. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. I made sure they could fit into the Sky-Hero arms with no problems. They fit fine! I just decided to mount them on the lower deck of the Sky-Hero for better cooling. The ESC's also came with deans connectors already soldered and bullet connectors on the ends. I removed both for my application, shortened the wire and re-soldered the bullet connector. I'm running a 6s system, these should handle it with no problems.

I have only started the install but am most of the way through the bulk of it. As you can see with the pictures, I'm taking my time with the motors and ESC wiring. I want this to last and not have any problems down the road. I decided to go ahead and use the bullet connectors, but shorten all wires to proper length, making everything nice and neat.

This is where I'm at so far with the build. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am, and than you to KDE Direct for the great motors and ESC's for my new toy.

I'm having some problems uploading pictures tonight. I'll get them up tomorrow for everyone to see.

Thanks,
Chris

I was able to get my picture issue figured out. Here is the rest of the build with the KDE motors and ESC's. I was able to get it set up and test flown this weekend. Very impressed with everything so far. I'll get some video of the first flight and some GoPro video up here soon with a conclusion of everything.

Thanks,
Chris

Here is some first footage from the new system. It's very smooth, I'm happy with the whole system.

Make sure you change it to 720HD.

Glad you sorted the pic uploading. What was it?

Looks a neat little unit. is there no way to get the props out of shot though? I think I have seen one flying a Nex5. do they do a gimbal as well?

What props have you used?

Last of all.. where did you get those work mats from.. ?

Hello Dave,

The issue was a windows update that caused some issues. I was able to re-update and change some settings.......bingo........fixed.

Where the Zenmuse is mounted, it places the camera in a bad place for the props. I'm planning on working on that.

I think they have other mounts for different cameras but I'm just using it for fun right now. I might change out mounts and carry my Canon here later.

For now, I'm just going to play around, next is a ground station for a little FPV. I fly a lot of helicopter stuff and this thing in manual mode is a lot of fun and reminds me of basic helicopter flying. I think it would be fun for some fast FPV stuff.

The props are 14x4.5 that are on loan to me for some testing, not sure who the manufacture is.

Ah...........my work mats...........everyone always comments on my work mats........ I got them from FBL Rotors Unlimited. Ralph is the owner of the shop and a great guy.

Thanks,
Chris

I want to say "Thank you" to John at AddictiveRC for great support. I just got off the phone with him about the Sky-Hero. Good guy to deal with.
