S800 Update from DJI.

WKM update

How long we have to wait for the final solution, and the new GPS Firmware?
thanks

Why does DJI not allow us to upgrade the firmware for the GPS module ourself.
I live in South Africa and bought Two WKM's from Foxtech in China.
I had problems due to GPS V1 not working in Southern Hemisphere and DJI insist that the supplier where you bought it from must replace it. It costs allot of time and money to send it back to China and wait for its return. Mine took 4 months to come back! - that's 4 months no flying after buying two WKM and two rigs.

And now there is a problem with GPS V2 and Again DJI insist that the local distributor in my country can't deal with it and it must go back to the dealer it was purchased from and again I can't Fly - having just received my V2 GPS I am expected to send it back and not fly as we can't fly with V1 in southern hemisphere.

I flew up to London where I am now to collect some parts and buy others from Europe ( i just bought the iosd from dji ) and was thinking of buying other DJI equipment here too, but should something go wrong I can't send it to my local distributor to sort and will have to send it back here. Surely a local distributor should have the responsibility of sorting problems like this out for locals, like an international warranty?

I love DJI equipment but If it costs me having to send parts back for firmware upgrades to China, and months of no flying then I believe many of us are going to be forced to look for an alternative.

Surely DJI can allow at least the local distributors to have the ability to upgrade firmware on the GPS module - I would be happy to pay for that as it would be local post and much less expensive and time consuming. It boggles the mind to think why they are not doing this. Perhaps its something to do with protecting their IP from competition?

Anyone else frustrated or have advice?

Trying to understan DJI's policy towards their customers is similar to understand what's going on in a womans mind...impossible.

Are you sure the GPS V2 for the southern hemisphere is the same as the GPS affected by the bug ? I am in the same boat (got the V1 replaced by V2 to work in Brazil).....will email my dealer on monday.

What you could do is to contact one of the DJI distributors in SA and ask them if they could help you with the swap of the GPS since ther is no proof of purchase required...and in return you provide them with some business....I personally got away from always hunting for the cheapest price. A good dealer is much more worth than a few $$ saved.

Hey Chris - indeed - perhaps I should ask my wife to sort this one out for me ;)

As far as I know there is only one version of V2 GPS and all of them work in S. Hemi. it was only V1 that didn't. Now however - all of those V2's are affected by the new bug where heavy lifts ( and maybe not so heavy lifts) can flip. Unless I have missed something?
.
DJI distributor in SA wishes he could help, but he can't actually help with this one.

I have learnt my lesson - as we say in SA "Local is Lekka" which roughly translated equates to "If you buy "DJI"you had better get it local

And that's exactly what I am going to do

uuuuppps...then I also have to replace my GPS.....to let the wife sort things out should always be the last line of defence....they can become pretty nasty :tennis:

There are two words in SA which I really liked and which are really useful: 1) lekker....always pronouced like: lekkerrrrrrr 2) voertsek....pronouced like: futttsekkk...means: bugger off, go to hell

BTW: The prices in SA are not that bad and the dealers are really nice and helpful.....like all guys from SA which I know.

Thanks Chris, I got my first rig from steadidrone on apm1 . It crashed real lekka as I only flew in manual mode as instructed and was a noob, lol. After saying voetsek to Apm, I got two WKM, lol, and had one flip of death costing me damages of ...well lets just say my wife does adopts that supportive tone that well doesn't sound quite so. Xtremecopters.co.za just told me they sell the GPS standalone but it will be a week before they have the updated ones as they sent their stock to be updated. I know have 3 GPS and might have to buy a fourth just to get the updated one as xtreme insist I must send my existing ones to China. Perhaps if I buy something from them they could send the others back.

I am certain dji pays for the shipping to and from dealers, don't you think?

I think the way fwd for me may be to register as a dealer myself

Be and fly well....

Please quantify "purchase after June 15 2012"! I ordered my WKM-GPS in late August or early September and it just arrived at my local Hobby store today! Local Hobby store ordered it from EmpireRC in Arizona. So the question is.... "Was this item purchased from the manufacturer's facility before or after June 15, 2012....... I am not willing to pay for it or take it until I know.

halcyone, sorry to hear that the wife is not so happy about your extrem material testing.....just one hint:Once you send the stuff to China, make sure you include some sort of warranty note, declare the value with $ 0, maybe together with the statement from DJI to avoid troubles and costs (Gst, import tax....) when you "re-import" your GPS's.

.....and enjoy the upcoming SA summer...we in Austria had the first snow today....I hate it more than anything else....would give everything for a nice Braai today :tennis:

Does Anyone want to swap my v1 GPS for the non - updated V2 GPS ? ( where should I post this on the forum to get better exposure) . I am currently in London and can send it express if anyone needs one urgently. My dealer in SA can get the V2 sent out to DJI and upgraded for me, but not the V1 which has to be sent to China to get swapped out and I believe they use slow post on the way back.

Chris - send me your V2 GPS and I'll teach you to make a braai in the snow (ps you will need alot of paraffin) ;)

You could try to offer the swap here as well: http://www.multirotorforums.com/forumdisplay.php?10-Classifieds

Chris - send me your V2 GPS....

I got my V1 exchanged with V2 since I need it for going to Brazil. Now I need to exchange the V2 with the updated V2 (will they call it now V3 ?...) ...I might be lucky since I got a very good dealer in the Netherlands.

I'll teach you to make a braai in the snow (ps you will need alot of paraffin)...

I remember doing my first braai in Jo'burg turning into a desaster.....after using all telephone books I could find to get a fire going, my neighbor came over, and after 1/2 hour swearing at me in Afrikaans and English at the same time for turning his home into a biltong smoking chamber he showed me how to make a fire the right way....after a case of Amstel and a few Castel Lager we became pretty good friends....althought the meat was burnt beyond recognition....

While we are on the topic of updates, does anyone know when DJI is going to replace the PAL HDMI converters with ones that will work properly with NTSC video? This is an important fix and one that DJI should easily be able to rectify.
