Question about motors....

So earlier today, a customer came into my shop and saw me fiddling with my F550 during my lunch break.

He said he was into the hobby as well and has several high end flying rigs

We got to talking and I told him I recently developed a flight problem (see my other thread) and after looking over my setup, he immediately said I should upgrade my el cheapo ghetto motors.

Now, I know they're not the best out there, in fact, they're probably the cheapest things on the market (RcTimer 750kv), but they've been holding up pretty good over the last year.

Anyways, I asked which ones he suggests for under $30 bucks and he said either Sunnysky or MayTech?? (never heard of that one), but whatever I decide on, I should get them with inverted shafts and a bolt on spinners (like this)

When I asked why, he said the extended shafts on the bottom will help keep things balanced

Is this true?

Not true.... the extended shaft provide no value for MR flying. You will see that most motors sold for MRs do not have the extended shaft which is simply parasitic weight.

Keep in mind that Sunnysky motors are an excellent choice. Much depends on your current and future plans for MR AUW. Also I was not aware that the DJI stock motors are same as RCTimer 750kv..... interesting!

They're not, it's an F550 frame with budget parts thrown at it :black_eyed:

Thanks for the info on the motors.

The ones I use have performed flawlessly on countless flights, but I'm not a fan of the flimsy wiring :upset:

Each cable feels ultra brittle and dinky :cold:

If in fact my current flight problem happens to be due to the motors, I'll be looking to upgrade based on the wiring alone because I've been more than happy with the actual performance

Thoughts on these pancake motors?
