Hey everyone, looking at getting an RTF Octocopter from Quadrocopter.us by the end of summer and was just wondering what your experiences are dealing with them. I am looking at spending close to $20,000 on a complete setup and just want to make sure they have good customer service an product support after the initial purchase. I am in Alberta, Canada by the way. Thanks!

Quadcopter us is a very nice company but... why spent almost double the money on a RTF when you can build one yourself, be proud of your creation and save a few dollars?

The forums have everything you need.

The best reason to build yourself is the ability to fix it when something goes wrong or rebuild it after a crash. A lot of the decision depends on how comfortable you are with a project of that magnitude vs. how deep are your pockets to just pay someone to do it all for you and that includes ongoing maintenance and repair. The cross border aspect of dealing with situations where the entire unit may have to be sent back to the vendor is also something to consider along with the associated downtime. If you plan on using the Octo for business, can you afford to have it out of action for a week or two while it's in transit to and from the builder or would it be more convienient to be able to just order some parts and do the job yourself? As for software support, as Red points out the forums can be an invaluable resource there.

This last thursday night I ordered a used spectrum transmitter and some prop adapters from their website, a few minutes later I emailed a request for some stickers to be thrown in the package. I had an email in my box the next morning from Karsten who said no problems on the stickers, great! Then on Easter sunday I get an email from
Flori the CEO saying he was getting new stickers made and would make sure I get some. Monday morning I had my package already in my hands (granted I'm in Utah and they're in Montana) but still, that kind of response over something as trivial as stickers and such a small order over a holiday weekend tells me their customer service is probably top notch.
And Flori if you happen to read this, I still want to leave NAB with a cinestar six just to save y'all the trouble of shipping everything back to Montana:nevreness:. I'm psyched to see this gear up close and to meet the Quadrocopter team.

Hmmm, you guys have me thinking...I have built many trex helicopters and have a Trex 700 with ps1 3x gimbal that I built and setup myself and that works great,I just haven't done a lot of small soldering on flight control boards etc and by the sounds of it it seems like a lot of work to be able to get these multirotors to fly right and to have them nice and smooth for video...Anyone beg to differ? Is the five or six grand you save worth the headache of trying to get it setup properly? Or is it fairly achievable with some help from the forums and some nice long winter nights of building?

I recently built an Okto2 from Quadrocopter.us (they are fantastic btw) and I had no previous experience whatsoever....no soldering...no electronics...nothing. I'm not even technically or mechanically inclined (though moderately more so now!). The experience of building it myself was incredibly rewarding. Everyone on this forum was very helpful and I can't thank them enough.

If you have the time (and if you are waiting until Summer then clearly you do) you should consider building yourself. It will cost you half or less and you will know how to fix it when you (inevitably...seriously) crash it. It will probably take no more than a couple of weeks to put together depending on how much spare time you have and you won't have to depend on anyone else if something goes wrong.

Best of luck!

I think it comes down to that moment when your standing in front of a client pre dawn with your d**k in your hand and your rig on the ground waiting for someone to answer a call at 5 in the morning vs. busting out your tools and fixing the problem yourself. Nothing wrong with getting a RTF kit if you have the money, but you're going to have to learn the inner-workings of your rig eventually else wise you'll be spending a fortune on postage sending it back and forth to the manufacturer imho.
These gizmos are tricky, one day my quad soars like an eagle, the next day, well, I've thrown bricks off of buildings that fly with more control.

I was going to build my own hex... But decided to get the CS 6 instead. I would probably be building instead of flying for the past few weeks. Easy easy build and being a heavy DIY'er I think the design is brilliant, strong, and light... and modular. (turned it into a y6 already) Whenever I order they have amazingly fast shipping.

i'm not sure i like the idea of vendors hijacking other vendors' threads. :upset:

Also a bit uneasy.
Suggest customer chasing is done via a PM rather than publicly on the forum

Sorry about that guys. I took the post as him asking advise on where to get good service and such. I was just offering another option. Looking back, I should have definently sent it by PM. Again, sorry about that. I edited my original post.

Just my opion regarding the quadrocopter.us.

I bought from them many times to build my Cinestar 8 and here is my experience:

1. One time their staff forgot my order and caused late delivery. I tried to call them at midnight my time just to meet them and make sure my order will be shipped however it seems does not work :(

2. I asked them to review my order when I purchase Cinestar 8 and other stuff to make sure that I have all items to build an Octokopter, no response from them and I have to reorder the missing part (take me 1 month later given I live far away from the US)

3. I ordered Cinestar Gimbal from them which cost $1500 and they sent me a error servo which will keep panning and can not work. I can't do anything except for trying to fix it at my side given If I return it would cost me alot of money.

4. Yesterday, I ordered some items from them which include 3 servos to replace error servos from them, their system debit my account and then later stage comeback with an email saying that I have to wait for one month given the servos are out of stock :((

Actually, I do not receive many customer support from them or the response is too slow while I need it urgently :( Now I will try with other shops.

I hope that my case does not usually happen but for me it happens consistently.

I dont also like the Idea of thread hijacking or even sending Pm's when the original topic is for another Vendor , Sorry but thats just my view and not wanting to upset anybody here.
As for Quadrocopter.us which this thread was originally about , you only need to see the videos they produce to see what level Jeff and the team are at .

Hello.
This threads are based on a few members on the forum so it is not fair to judge one company. We all know that somethimes we order something and we dont get it asap. It hapenes. Well support is another big thing some like to abuse. For instance if u buy a video link and u dont know how to hook it up. Who is obligated to give u support for it. Manufacturer, seller ...

So i would like to say that being patient and polite always got me the response i was looking for. That is my MOTO.

Vendors hijacking other vendors' threads is a bad thing if u ask me.
