PLEASE help with my 450 quadcopter build

Hello,

I am going to build a quadcopter and so far I have come up with the following parts. All parts are from Hobby King Australian warehouse so I can get them nice and quick. My use for the quad is mainly to just practice flying and maybe put a gopro on it in a few weeks time until I upgrade later. I am having a little bit of trouble knowing whether all parts will be compatible and if these are good choices for me.

FRAME: Q450 v3 frame
CONTROLLER: Kk2.1.5 flight controller or a multiwii?
ESC: Turnigy Multistar 20 Amp Multi-rotor Brushless ESC 2-4S
MOTOR: Turnigy Multistar 2213-980Kv 14Pole Multi-Rotor Outrunner
PROPS: Slow Fly Electric Prop 1045SF (4 pc)
RADIO: Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (Mode 1) (v2 Firmware)
BATTERY: ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 20C
CHARGER: Hobbyking® DC-4S Balance Charger & Cell Checker 30w 2s~4s
POWER SUPPLY: Hobbyking 60w Power Supply

Anyones help or comments are really appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
yup, that ought to work except for the Zippy packs. don't buy too many batteries at first. build it, fly it, hang some weight under it and see how much excess power you've got and what kind of flight times you can pull from 2200 mah. if you can fly the weight of a GoPro plus some more then you might want to get higher capacity batteries. 3 or 4 packs to get started but then do some testing to see what kind of room you've got for higher capacity packs to extend flight times.

regarding the Zippy packs, a few people will have had different experiences but I had a very bad experience with Zippy packs. They were all basically garbage. On the other hand I've had excellent results with the Turnigy Nano-tech packs.

lastly, buy yourself a couple of these when you place your order. crack the plastic and remove it (keep it for the instructions that are stuck to it) and velcro the inner module to your heli for a battery alarm. never fly without one plugged in and monitoring your battery voltage.

when Motopreserve; and I were at the NEAT Fair we were talking to a guy with the KK2 flight control board but I forget which firmware he was running....Alien maybe? Maybe Scott will remember but it flew really nice!

good luck!

Unfortunately I don't recall which firmware it was running, but it was definitely flying super stable. So it's out there.

Great, thanks for the help Bartman. I went ahead and bought all the bits and swapped the zippys for the nanos as you said. I also picked up the alarm too. I have just thought of another thing; when connecting the battery to the frame (frame does not need power distribution board as it has solder points) I need another cable or plug to plug the battery in to, and then solder the other end so I can easily remove the battery. I went for the Turnigy nano-tech 2650mah 3s 25-50c which i believe has 4mm cables. I cant seem to find the bit I need.

I just found this link to the bit I may need http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...otor_Extension_Lead_250mm_AUS_Warehouse_.html

However I am just not too sure as it says it is used for 40-50c and mine is a 25-50. Does this have any effect?

thanks

What you need are the connectors that will tie battery to the PDB (integrated power distribution board on the 450). The choice of the "right" connectors is hotly debated, with several options for you to choose from. The easiest would be to decide on the type of connectors that come on the batteries you chose. But realize then that you will be married to those connectors, and may end up with batteries that arrive with connectors different than the ones on the battery you linked. The best move is to remove the current battery connector and decide on what you will use on all your batteries and MRs moving forward.

The most common choices for connectors are the EC series (EC5 being popular) and the XT series (XT-60 handles most current/amperage applications. If you choose to go with a connector that is not currently installed on your batteries, you will need to remove the stock connector (ALWAYS cut the wires 1 at a time and wrap the end in electrical tape so you don't short them out). Solder on your new connectors, and make a power lead from the PDB (raw positive and negative wires soldered to the PDB) which terminates in the mating connector that is now installed on your battery.

Mr take no prisoners!
Pity you have bought all the gear already, you have gone the cheapest and nastiest route with pretty much everything and will be needing to upgrade a lot of it very soon.

+1 to staying away from the Zippy packs... I've tried the Zippy Compacts (4S 4000mah) and regular Zippy 4S 8000. They leave a lot to be desired, although my compact lasted for a while, it went bad quick. The Turnigy and Turnigy Nano-tech packs are great, and really not that much more expensive - worth the extra dollar or two.

the props aren't the best make sure you balance them. They tend to break easy on a small tap very brittle plastic. Other then that it should work fine.

You might want to consider banggood free shipping to most places they match hobby kings prices the only downside is they don't have as large of a selection. They have way better customer service as well hobby king is just crap service and broken parts come all the time with the big screw you to the customer.

you might want to try some nylon gemfan props and get a prop balancer you will need it.

The C rating is the amount of current that can be pulled larger is better if you need it as you will puff lower rated lipos if they can't handle it. 25 C is what is recomened for a F550 and that's 2 more motors. The Afro 30 ESC work really well. Go with good motors if you can afford it makes a huge difference. I use the Red dji ones like night and day compared to the hobby king ntm ones that were rubbish.

consider a 4000mah lipo it can lift the weight and it gives the best time per weight for the F450
