Orbit 15-20 and prop adapters?

Hey guys,

My new custom octo heavylifter is almost finished! I'll start a new thread about that soon. I was planning to do a test flight tomorrow, but I have one question about the prop adapters. They don't seem to tighten well, they will always rotate on the motor shaft. Should I lubricate them before tightening? Does anyone use green loctite on the motorshaft?

Thanks!

No, you should contact Plettenberg and upgrade to a integrated prop shaft! Don't use separate prop adapters. THEY WILL COME OFF!

Hi,
I have the Same issue asked for integrated prop shaft...also have you asked for cables 550 mm length or standard length(for SKYJIB the boom length being 550mm)...what about the bullet connectors what mm are you considering..?

Can I upgrade the motors my self if I order the parts from Plettenberg? Wouldn't want to send the motors to Germany..

I'm using 14awg wire and 4mm bullet connectors.

I sugest you send a mail to Meyer Pasal...at plettenberg..I think he should reply...they would suggest you the best option....How is the motor performance in terms of vibration?I have placed an order for 8.. 15-22 Motors with extended cables and 6mm connectors?should I consider 3.5mm?YGE ESC 90 LV?

This is merely an educated guess from memory (as I had been in possession of those prop adapters just prior to being warned away from them, as above, months ago), but I seem to recall that certain props have a root depth that do not equal the length of the non-threaded portion where the prop slides onto. This causes the nut to bottom out, falsely giving the impression that it's tight even though, as you mentioned, the prop is free to move under the seemingly tightened nut.

Good luck. Oh yeah, so you'd need to get a washer to take up some additional distance between the prop adaptor's bottom plane and the retaining nut so that the two surfaces are actually pinching down on something.

Thanks for input,

The prop tightens very well (enough threads on the adapters), but the adapter rotates on the motor shaft. I contacted Plettenberg via email, hopefully they'll reply soon. My friend has flown his Skyjib 6 with similar setup without problems for hundreds of flights but I wouldn't want to risk my heli.

They are superb quality.. I ran the motors w/o props and there's almost no vibration. 6mm bullets are overkill, they are rated at 200A and the motors are probably going to peak at 50A MAX. I have used 3.5mm's on small helis but for big motors I prefer to use longer 4mm plugs, for example these:

I'm using Maytech 60A ESC's, but I think that 40A's should be just fine. The total amp draw needs to be divided between the motors, contiunous 200A draw is only 25A / motor in an octo setup.

Thanks for the input.....I will place an order for 4mm that should be OK as max AMP should be 65 at full throttle...CC or Maytech should be fine at 60A ESC..Thanks

Pascal from Plettenberg replied, if I understood correctly, there shouldn't be a problem with the adapters that I am using.

Hello Olli-Pekka,

many thanks for your mail.

There are no problem if you change and fix the propeller we recommend to our customer. If you are not hold the housing of the motor by fixing the
prop holder there will be no problems. Many customer are ignore the manuals and they have the problems. ( see the pdf file “Orbit_Propmount” enclosed )

You are right, to save some weight we have developed the new front plate for the Orbit motors. This is made for propeller with a 6 mm middle hole. It is easy
to change the front plate by yourself. ( Spec_frontpl_MC_Orbit_2 )

You just have to unlock the 4 screws around the housing and remove the original shaft with the front plate and replace the old one with the special front plate.

This front plate is 10,08 Euro / pce. and the nut is 8,32 Euro / nut. This nut is with a heli coil inner part for using cw props and ccw props.
You have to add the shipping cost to Finland.

The modification would cost around 200€ inc. post fee, damn these things are expensive...!

Hi guys I have a Skyjib 8 v1 with 8 Plettemberg Orbit 15-20 motors project thats been on hold for a wile, I want to finish and fly this bird so I have some questions regarding the topic of Prop adapters
1 what do you think of this kind of prop adapters View attachment 9895

2 I guess having the Plettemberg shaft upgrade at the end a better option any comments

3 I live in south Florida it is usually hot here I understand that Plettemberg also has a cooling plate upgrade any comments

4 what would be the best recommendation from real experience for individual ESC for this motors I live in the USA

thanks guys
