Hello to everyone,
I'm a complete newbie having watched many YouTube vid's and firing a few email's off to a couple of companies, I've gone and ordered my first hexacopter package the Dji f550 gps from Geoff at Quadcopters uk looking forward to receiving this at some point next week.
I can see this becoming very addictive and looking forward to learning to fly.

Regards

Hello Mick and welcome to this great fraternity!

You will find tons of valuable information, messages and informative blogs in this forum, vital to your pleasure and enjoyment of this unique hobby.

Looking at your message, I am a bit worry about your remote control experience (?) and flying any type of multirotors. If you are an absolute beginner (and we all started exactly there at some point), I strongly suggest you get a hold of a good flight sim with multirotors and develop some skills BEFORE attempting to take off with the F550. Ideally, an instructor showing you the ropes and calibrating your machine would be the easiest path to begin on the right foot, but not the only one. It is really vital that your understand the basics of R/C flying and acquire some flying skills before your first flight. MR flying is relatively easy but thing can get ugly in seconds if you make a mistake....

Hoping this word of advice will help you enjoy your new and very addictive hobby!

Hi Rodge,

thanks for the reply and the advice all of which ive taken onboard, i did own a raptor 50 heli a few year's back and got to the hovering stage with it but that was it so it will be small steps at first get my confidence up and my flying skill's up before i try anything else. I'll be hovering and moving around at low level once that is mastered i'll gain a little more height and progress slowly,

Hi VinF550 I took my first step today once the rain had stopped long enough had my f550 in a hover for ten min's I'd like to fly FPV too eventually but one small step at a time. I need to save some cash for the other bits and bob's do you fly via monitor or fat shark goggles?

Good news feller are you running wkm or naza I had a little cheat as running WKM flicked the switch so as no matter which way unit was facing back is back and forward is forward on the TX. Helped me loads. If not flying WKM then just think your sitting on the unit flying ie cockpit. If you can imagine that then right is right and left is left.. Rather than thinking opposites, my trick anyway but more experienced guys on here may say otherwise but this worked for me. The biggest rush I had when I went up to 50 Meters lol loved it the good news is if you panic like I did just let go and she stops stables and you can work it out.. Do change the props mate that is your first buy for sure if not already done it..

Hi Vin i have graupner 10x5's but ive not fitted the yet as i didnt build the hex Geoff did ive just read online that if im running a 5000mah 4's battery i should run 8 inch props? is this the case and they say if you run a 3's battery you can run 10x5's its all a bit confusing lol also are the prop threads oppersite ie clockwise motor will have anticlockwise thread and anticlockwise will be a clock wise thread you can see im a newbie lol

A lot of people run 4s with 10.5 Graupners on here, with no issues once you start adding weight it al levels out. DJI recommend 8, 10 on 3s and 8 on 4s. I don't because i brought a couple of 3s battery's for start. Geoff advised me that 8 were good all round and they are for sure but try your 10 when you happy to fly bit more.. DJI are more forgiving to learn BUT change when getting height and adding extra kit.. one prop out at 100 ft hurts lol. With regard to left and right props yep but manual shows which is which and also is you look on props it tells your direction. If staying low then play around with the DJI but change when getting height.. BE CAREFUL THEY ARE SHARP! But sound wicked when you fly with them LOL

Firstpersonview.co.uk do most of the setups. I went for the attitude kit which is a good all round kit and price.

I'll have a look when I get home from work, those props I have will they need balancing or are they pretty good out the box?

Didn't balance mine, but people do check them, you will need some 8mm washers under the props smallest possible as the nuts won't be able to torque down enough.
